Great location and spacious rooms.

Pros: Great location and a very friendly and helpful staff. Cons: The public spaces downstairs are public, noisy and always full of people. Sometimes it was even difficult to reach the room because of the crowd at the hotel's main entrance.

The reviews about the maintenance of the property are totally accurate. Take them seriously. Refrigerator was hanging out of the cabinet and didn't work after bought food we needed to keep fresh for early fishing trip the next morning. The phone didn't work to call reception to get help so had to walk down 3 times to try to get it dealt with. Both TVs were lacking cable connections so we couldn't watch anything. I did not research well enough to know the pool bar didn't have a full liquor license. The cocktails that they try to make weren't good. We were so dissatisfied we checked out early and went to a different hotel.

I travel to New York at least once a year on business and this hotel was a pleasant surprise. Located in the heart of Greeley Square, normally a hotel here you might find loud, run down and not particularly comfortable. It was nice and quiet despite the surrounding area, was clean and the beds were very comfortable. There is a modest complimentary breakfast served which was also nice before venturing out for the day.

OK - when I go to NYC to visit my son, I just need a bed to sleep in, a shower to wash up in, and a convenient location to be in the city. This hotel filled those needs. I am not looking for the hotel to be the center of my vacation, but basically a location that I can crash and refuel for the next day. I would love to have a free breakfast in the morning and this would have given it a 5 star rating, but the small hotels that I stay in in NYC are just convenient bed rooms to me. Yes, I need clean. Yes, I need comfort. Yes, I need quiet. Those are things that are basics that without, this hotel's ratings would have fallen off a cliff, but like I said, my needs are very little on a hotel in NYC. Give me those items at a descent price and you will get 4 stars. If you want to hit all the tourist hot spots in NYC, then park yourself in midtown at a hotel like this and save some money and wake up early and go to bed late, this hotel is perfect. Rooms are small (but I don't care because I am a solo traveler). So please note I rate on my own needs and whether they are being met. Solo traveler or couple wanting a place to just sleep, this hotel will meet your needs. If you are looking for the Ritz, then stay at the Ritz. If you want to save money and don't mind small hotels that provide only the basics because you don't need anything else, then this is the place. CLEAN, COMFORTABLE, QUIET. Bingo you found your match.

It was a really nice family trip

Our room was not ready until 3:15pm, 15 minutes past the contractual check-in time. We had arrived at 9am and requested for to check in early if possible because of evening commitments. I understand it's a busy hotel, but to not be allowed to check in until 15 minutes after the guaranteed time is pathetic. I called at 12pm and they said the room would be ready soon. It was not. No apologies were given. Our AC vent was also clicking on/off all night making it difficult to sleep. The walls are paper thin and you can hear everything right outside your room. This hotel markets itself up to appear luxurious in the lobby and outside, but once you're in your room it is miserable. $6 for a drip coffee in the morning. Avoid at all costs. You are better off anywhere else.
