We had a wonderful stay at Yukairou Kikuya last week! The property is gorgeous and the private onsen in our room was wonderful and much appreciated after a long stay in Japan with much walking! We really enjoyed the town of Izu - Shizouka with its quaint feel, the lovely temple, bamboo forest and the beautiful river running through the town. It was such a lovely break from all the large city stays we had and my husband and I have already discussed returning without our tenn children as it is a very romantic property and is more suitable to adults. The traditional Japanese dinner and Western breakfast were all wonderful and we enjoyed the other amenities as well. I highly recommend this for anyone looking for a lovely onsen stay during the visit to Japan!

I would definitely recommend this hotel for anyone looking for a relaxing, enjoyable, and unique experience in Japan. We booked the room with the private hot spring bath for two nights, and it was so worth it! The room was spacious, clean and comfortable with a small outside deck seating area. It was nice to sit outside and hear the wind move through the bamboo trees or the sounds of the river. Yukatas are provided in multiple sizes and are worn when on the property for comfort and ease when using spa services. We also ordered breakfast and dinner through the property. We had both Western style and Japanese style foods - all delicious and definitely an experience you must try! There are a few small shops and eateries nearby and a path one may stroll along the river. A bus stop is nearby or taxis are easily available. Train station is just a 7-minute taxi ride away. We used Google translate during our visit and had no problems. We will definitely visit again!

I’ve stayed at many ryokan in different parts of Japan; Yukairou Kikuya is by far the best. Not only does it have flawless service, beautiful rooms and superb food, but it has famously beneficial onsen water in baths that range from in-room to private to a larger “public” one that I nevertheless had all to my self. The baths are often outdoors in private gardens, which enhances the experience. I also had a shiatsu massage that ranks among the best of my life. I can’t recommend Kikuya highly enough, and can’t wait to return.

We had a fantastic experience at this traditional Japanese ryokan in Shuzenji Onsen, said to be over 400 years old. Despite its age, the facilities and rooms were spotlessly clean and well maintained. We booked two suites, each with its own private onsen, which was perfect for relaxing. Each suite can fit up to four guests, making it great for families or groups. The staff were incredibly kind and attentive. We accidentally left a cell phone behind, and they quickly arranged to ship it to our next hotel—a level of service we truly appreciated. The property offers one public onsen and one private onsen. The shared spaces are a bit small, and the private onsen is first-come, first-served with no reservation system, which may be inconvenient for some. Since our suites had private baths, this wasn’t an issue for us. A fun highlight: the ryokan has three small self-service cafés with complimentary drinks, popsicles, and ice cream, plus a late-night free ramen bar at 10 PM. Such a unique and enjoyable touch! Meals were excellent. The kaiseki dinner was beautifully prepared, and breakfast offered Western or Japanese options. Their Western-style breakfast tasted better than many we’ve had back home in the US. There is also a charming kimono rental shop next door. We recommend renting here rather than in Kyoto or Tokyo—it's less crowded and offers stunning photo spots with bamboo forests, a riverside bridge, and nearby temples. We highly recommend this ryokan.

I stayed one night and it was surely not enough. The place was so peaceful and beautiful. Amenities was spectacular. The kids loved the free popsicles. Dinner was amazing with so many fun courses. I’ve stayed in one of the premium rooms with a private bath and I found the bath in my room was just as nice as the shared private bath hence I didn’t need to wait to use the shared one. There are so many complementary snacks in the room too. I especially liked the jello snack in the fridge. The views are breathtaking. A lot of big bugs…. Bring bug spray. (This is coming from a city girl.)

Wonderful stay at Ryokan Kikuya. It's picturesque, with the stream running through it. Impeccable service, attentive yet discreet. Situated at the heart of Shuzenji Onsen town, one can go on short or long walks with interesting sites to visit.
