Pestana Inhaca Island

Hotels.com charged me extra for New Years Eve. When I got to the hotel I was asked to pay an extra USD280.00 just for New Years Eve. They had no record of the extra payment made to Hotels.com. Inhaca Island was amazing. The hotel is old and although was in need of some TLC, it was a fairly comfortable stay.

Overrated 4 star hotel

The hotel is outdated not very well maintained. Definitely not 4 stars. Be careful when booking since the ferry to the Island does not go everyday and even if it is scheduled to go, it can be cancelled last minute. We had to pay much more in getting a private transfer to go and leave the Island since both dates the ferries were cancelled. Beach infront of the hotel was really dirty and not adequate for swimming. You have to go to another side of the island to see better beaches and therefore also pay additionally for the drive. It is not at walking distance.

Adjust expectations to rural Africa

I enjoyed Inhaca, but this is rural Africa, no 5* resort. The government ferry is just as fast as the Vodacom and ½ the price (ticket sales were chaotic). Both have the same times, but leave from different places in Maputo. You jump from the ferry to a motorized canoe and walk a short distance in shallow water. The motorized canoe is Mt 20 and park fee Mt 200. Avoid touts who want to carry your bags and demand a high fee and follow you all day. Rooms are large and fine. Mine had a bathroom faucet leak so they moved me. Breakfast and dinner adequate (don't expect Michelin stars). At rack rate, it is overpriced, but discounts are available. Check before signing food and drink bills. I was overcharged outside. At check out, I was told signing meant I confirmed the charge, but they corrected it. The hotel now let us keep the rooms until the return ferry. Inhaca is great for birding, but the activity center gave me the worst "bird guide" I've ever had. Large birds were pointed out as "another one there". When pressed, he pointed to photos in an incomplete book and sometimes the wrong species. He had no interest in small birds, no binoculars, bird calls, or coaxing birds out. I told the owner the guide needs training. He said, "We will let him take the books home and study." I heard the snorkeling/diving trips were good. An outside restaurant, Lucas, had good tiger prawns, but very slow service even though it was not busy.

sehr freundlicher und hilfsbereiter Service

Sehr nettes Personal und wirklich gutes Frühstück und Abendessen. Ein bischen romantische Stimmung während des Abedessens an Wochentagen durch Kerzen oder schöneres Licht im Spreisesaal und die Option draussen sitzen zu dürfen wären wünschenswert. Nicht alle genannten Aktivitäten wurden auch angeboten. Schade! Ansonsten aber ein erholsamer Platz und eine schöne Insel.

Un bell'hotel a 2 passi dal mare

Un hotel assolutamente consigliato a chi si trova a Praia. Le camere sono molto grandi e all'interno della struttura c'è anche un ottimo ristorante.

Ikke et firestjernet hotel

Det er vist mange år siden, at dette hotel har kunnet gøre det ud for et firestjernet hotel. Vi vil give det to til tre stjerner. God beliggenhed. Færgen fra Maputo ligger til lige ud for hotellet. Smuk udsigt ud over pool og hav. Stor og kold saltvandspool. Maden er okay, gennemsnitlig, men også til pænt høje priser. Værelset var ikke specielt rene eller på nogen måde hyggelige. Snarere gammelt og støvet. Det værste var, at jeg fik stjålet penge fra min pung på værelset, mens vi var på restaurant. Det blev anmeldt til receptionen, der tilsyneladende ikke gjorde yderligere.

Quiet and comfortable

The Pestana Ihaca is a great place to stay for a few days rest and relaxation on a beautiful island easily accessed by ferry from Maputo. The hotel provides accommodation and service of a standard very much in keeping with it's location - low-key and relaxed, not luxurious, but comfortable and friendly.

2 Star Hotel at most

We stayed at Pestana Inhaca Lodge for 3 nights. We were unhappy about the fact that we were not informed that the pool will be undergoing renovations during our stay. We would definitely not have visited the hotel under such circumstances. The variety of food offered was poor and one gets the impression that the hotel is being run on a shoestring. It is seriously overpriced, internet service is extra, as well as bottled water (tap water is not suitable for drinking purposes). The hotel staff is friendly, but lacks training. I will certainly not recommend this lodge.

Nice base to explore Inhaca

This was a nice base to explore Inhaca The hotel staff were wonderful and most helpful, going out of their way to make our stay comfortable. The room was rather basic, large, basic, and comfortable, and the hotel grounds/ pool were big enough for kids to play around in. My only quibble, really, was that their restaurant was significantly overpriced for what they served

Gostei muito da estadia do hotel pestana até porque para uma ilha é um luxo tudo muito organizado a alimentação de primeira qualidade ....só o atendimento k deixa um pouco a desejar mais disso não posso reclamar pork esse detalhe é cultural ....só achamos diferente pork viemos de uma pais como o Brasil k as coisas fluem rápido ...mais a paisagem é linda o hotel agradável ....eu recomendo pra quem quer descansar e fugir um pouco da cidade é uma ótima opção. Água cristalina estrela do mar peixes ao seu redor ....enfim um paraíso

Looked good in the photo's

Inhaca Island, located off Mozambiques capital, Maputo is attractive with its clean water and meandering beaches. The ferry ride, although cheap, was old and in disrepair. As there is only one service a day, one arrives at low tide requiring a tender to come and pick you up which will require additional payment on the day. Again, tide being out, the tender can only proceed so far before you are humping your bags to the beach. Charter flights only run in the afternoon and ferries don't run on Thursdays. Beware. Friendly greeting with an island tax before entering the grounds of the Lodge. Reception staff were experienced and accommodating. The restaurant staff were also very friendly. Food was at an acceptable level but not earth shattering. The bathroom shower was blocked, the safe key didn't fit, sliding door would not slide and the door knob was hanging off. Although dated, the room was spacious and fitted with mosquito nets and airconditioning. Although they have a non-smoking policy labelled in and around the restaurant, particular staff must be exempt from the government policy as they smoke while eating. The grounds were well presented and the pool was well maintained and clean. All in all, not what you would expect for the money that you are charged. Activities were expensive and with research, one could find far better value elsewhere, but not in Maputo.

Le séjour a été parfait.Accueil,personnel,service,la table,l'environement.Un seul bemol l'eau de la piscine à la limite de la propreté.(algues) .Pas de frigo dans la chambre.

The staff is rude and the service is very poor. They do not protect their customers from local villagers who go on rampage to get money from the travellers. the Hotel need to cordinate travel arrangements with the ferries as there is no cordination at all. We were forced out of the Hotel at 10 when the ferry was due to arrive at 17h30. We arranged a shuttle with the hotel from the port to Pestana Rovuma and did not arrive and no one seemed to care. The place is beautiful but not hospitable as result of the staff as well as their rude manager Mr. Fernando Cuna. I would not advise anyone to visit that place. The staff is not helpful at all.
