One of the best and most unique places I’ve ever stayed. A beautiful old townhouse in the heart of Miyajima within walkable distance of the famous Torii gate. The owner is a sushi master who prepared a stunning omekase sushi dinner for us. I’d recommend staying here and making sure to get the dinner option!

This place is amazing, a good taste of traditional guest houses. The dinner was out this world, best sushi I ever had! Staff was helpful and very polite. Would stay there again on my next visit to Miyajima.

Totally amazing experience! The host was very attentive and helpful. He carried our cases up to our accommodation and we were so surprised how big the space was! Two rooms and bathroom. We enjoyed sleeping on futons for the first time. However the highlight was the food! Sushi prepared and presented in front of us. Unbelievable quality and attention to detail. We also enjoyed our Japanese breakfasts too! The location is 200m from the Torri gate! Definitely highly recommend this property and host! Highlight of our holiday in Japan

This is a great place to stay for an authentic Japanese experience. The included dinner was delicious and we had a memorable time with the sushi chef. Staying on Miyajima Island allowed us to take a nice evening walk and this ryokan is close to all the sites. We truly enjoyed our stay.

Perfect traditional guesthouse

Exceptional hidden gem. Excellent location near Itsukushima Shrine; spacious traditional rooms with futons and quality yukatas, 2 guest rooms perfect for our family of 4. To top it off, the sushi dinner and Japanese breakfast were so good and memorable - the best we tried in Japan!

For those coming to Miyajima to enjoy the island after the crowds leave, this is the perfect option. It's a cosy, traditional Japanese lodging with tatami rooms, a large soaking bath and a restaurant run by the owner downstairs. He works very hard to ensure everything runs smoothly. You must also have the omakase dinner run by the talented host, he is an exceptional sushi chef and it was by far some of the best food we have had in Japan.

It is located very close to the the Itsukushima shrine and food stands and stores. The dinner course was amazing! Great sushi chef and so much sashimi! It will satisfy you plenty. Highly recommended.

Staying at Shiomachi-An has been awesome! Nice room with all comfort you can expect from a typical house. Sushi dinner has been incredible, the best sushi we ate in Japan. The host that is also the chef is really professional and kind. Absolutely deserves a stay while in Miyajima!

Staying at Traditional Machiya Hotel Shiomachi-An was the highlight of my trip! The sushi dinner was delicious, some of the best sushi I've ever had. The fish was so fresh and flavours were superb. The rooms were decorated in a beautiful style, full of traditional Japanese decor. It was amazing to stay somewhere special. The owner was very warm and welcoming and I'm so impressed that he runs this place himself. The location was excellent, set away from the super busy area, but close enough to walk to the sights and shopping. Thank you for the lovely travel memory.

This property is a traditional Japanese guesthouse, with 2 guest rooms located directly above the owners sushi restaurant. The Samurai room has sliding doors to an outdoor terrace. Both rooms share the toilet room (which is also used by restaurant guests) and a separate shower room. We were the only guests staying, so it wasn’t a big issue. Our reservation included an excellent omakase sushi dinner, which we highly recommend.

We absolutely loved our stay here! We loved everything about the island itself and our overnight stay in this traditional style home made it even better. The sushi meal provided by our host was such a great experience and so yummy. He was the loveliest host and even took us for a walk to see all the beautiful sites at night. Can’t thank you enough. This hotel is exceptional - I would give it 6 stars if I could! The room was beautiful and traditional, the location great for exploring Miyajima (especially at night once the island was less crowded), and the sushi dinner was some of the best sushi I've ever had in my life. In particular, the staff went above and beyond in being extremely welcoming, accommodating, and friendly, and they made this the most special experience of our trip to Japan!

Our 2 days stay at this very traditional home was another highlight of our 3 week trip to Japan. The best of all was the incredible and very extraordinary dinner with multiple, never before experienced, sushi courses.
