Gorgeous pub & hotel, lonely bar, good was great, friendly staff, honestly found a little gem staying here. Breakfast was lovely, couldn’t fault anything about the stay, thank you for having us, all the way from Sunderland

Unfortunately our room had a large cooler ( for keeping cellar , drinks? Cool) outside our room window, no manager to speak to but girl on the bar rang them about turning it off but they don’t turn off ! So slept maybe 3 hours ? Also bed not very good felt like it was dipping on edge , Did speak to member of staff next morning she was very nice but again no management, luckily it was just the one night . The good points the staff were lovely, room ( ignoring cooler) was nice & clean & the breakfast was excellent

Pub was dated, and our room had a shower/toilet in a pod, so read the small print when booking. The pod was extremely small with little room to manoeuvre and the extractor fan did not work. Also music could be heard in our room from downstairs. The positive is the shower was warm, the staff extremely friendly and the breakfast good. Also the local clientele were warm, friendly and welcoming

We had a warm and friendly welcome, the food was excellent, the service excellent, friendly and super helpful both evening and at breakfast. The staff are certainly the stars of the show. The room was clean along with a generous bathroom. We found the mattress uncomfortable but may have been heaven to others. Yes, the property is a little dated but suited our needs. The location was convenient on the A68 in a quiet village peaceful setting next to a pretty river. This pub was also very dog friendly, dogs allowed in bar for mealtimes, with lots of wee walks around to keep the pups happy. It was great value for money, this was my second stay and would go back again, it’s a great half way B & B to Aberdeen.

We were taking a back roads tour of historic England and this fit the bill perfectly. An old roadside inn near Roman ruins. A good night’s sleep, good food in a quaint small village- everything we could want. The staff was wonderful.

What a great place to rest your head.

What an absolutely fantastic place to rest your head for a night. The evening meal was great and the plate was only just big enough for the amount of food on it and the food was gorgeous.

The place is an ancient inn in a wonderful spot of the countryside. Perfect for trips along Hadrian's wall or nice walks in the fields. No restaurants in the area except the inn's one, where it's possibile to eat until 8.30 pm. Excellent beer until late. The toilet area is really tiny, but the rooms are lovely.
