We stayed two nights to play golf and visit St Albans. We booked dinner, bed and breakfast. Food was good, drinks not over priced, staff very attentive. Bed very comfortable and golf course a challenge.

Don’t believe the bad reviews!

After booking we read the reviews which made us worried but no need, the rooms ( we had 2, a double which was actually a super king, and a twin) were lovely. The beds were great, the room spacious, and the staff friendly. Well done

Comfortable, welcoming, friendly. Just what we needed after our holiday plans had to change when we couldn’t get a flight, and the hotel where we were going would not refund us. We were able to relax, recover, and enjoy a bit of luxury after the most horrible day at Stansted airport. The staff were lovely.

Beautiful building!

This is a really beautiful building with lots of character. My room was maybe just a little tired, but it was clean and the staff were friendly. Would I stay here again? Absolutely.

As usual the hotel and staff were really good the only points that I would make were please put a diagram of heating controls somewhere in the room as the air on heating is a bit confusing, and rooms could do with a comfortable chair

A few little bits and pieces need addressing

Hotel check in was average, staff all appeared to be very young and lacking general courtesy such as letting us know where the bar area was, what time breakfast was and anything about the facilities. All a bit hurried and keen to get rid of us to our room. Staff pleasant but just a little bit of extra training would be good. Room was very clean but run down. Walllpaper peeling off wall, damp on the ceiling, radiators up as high as they would go and thermostat controllers had snapped off so no way to turn them down. The bathroom bin was broken. Just little things but lets the hotel down as a beautiful location.
