Definitely think this hotel should be labeled 3 or 4 stars instead of 5. How wore down it looks in like the elevators and certain places. Staff super friendly though! Love free the coffee and unique selection of teas but that area was always quite messy and no trash can to throw away items in that area even though I brought it to their attention prior that the trash can was missing.. not sure if its worth 40 dollar a day amenity fee prob wont stay at this location in the future

The air-conditioning was very loud. There is no central airflow. The indoor unit is very loud, it is very difficult to sleep next to it. Also we were on the top floor near the elevator, it was very noisy, there was constant noise.

Overall, I liked my experience at the hotel - it is centrally located to all attractions, within walking distance to bakeries, cafes, etc. The bed and pillows were comfortable and clean on arrival. A couple of things to keep in mind: this hotel is under construction! The restaurant and gym were closed; the construction work starts at 8 am and there’s only one elevator for all the guests. If you are choosing this place for the convenience of on-site restaurant, I’d suggest double checking prior to booking. Also, we did not have a hair dryer in the bathroom and I requested it from the staff; after an hour passed, I had to go back to the check in desk to request it again (the front desk number was constantly busy). There is no iron in the room but they do have a nice Conair steamer available. We were missing the bottle of body wash the entire stay (even though there was cleaning service daily, nobody bothered to check that part and add the body wash bottle to our shower). The shower ceiling has rust stains and the paint was peeling off the walls by the elevator- hopefully, those things will be fixed during construction.

Checked in to use the room as home base for a night in the city catching up with an old friend. Overall, the stay was fine, but it was marred by several small issues. During check in, the person manning the desk was more than a little frosty when I asked if it would be possible to arrange for a late checkout, in contrast to my last stay here, where the front desk proactively asked me if I’d like a late checkout. The room was fine, but the toilet was constantly running water and we never could get it to shut off. The mattress on the bed was too small for the frame, leaving an awkward space around it that made it a little uncomfortable to get in and out of for one of us. And when we ordered breakfast in the morning, one of the forks was visibly rusted, and the front desk again responded icily when we asked for a replacement to be brought up as if we were making it up (the room service attendant who brought the replacement agreed with us that the fork was indeed rusty and should not be used). All of these issues are relatively minor and I’d excuse them if we were staying at, say, a Marriott three star hotel. But Watergate advertises itself as a five star hotel, and our experience fell far short of five star service and the accompanying cost. If I’m booking a five star establishment, I expect attention to detail on the part of the hotel. Do better, Watergate. I know you can.
