The hotel was lovely and clean but rooms could do with a make over. Breakfast let it down a bit The breakfast room was a bit dull and the breakfast was very basic. Ideal for if you’re going to a concert and just need to put your head down for the night.

The welcome was perfect from very friendly staff and I slep well and is in a good location. The hotel looks as if its been a long time since any attention was given to the decor, our room looked very tired and the bathroom was not as clean as it could have been. The continental breakfast was meagre to say the least, cereal, toast, old fruit, and amused many other guests. Not good value for the money.

Firstly I need to say that the staff at this property were brilliant- friendly, polite and very helpful. Breakfast was basic but fine. The location for Halifax was great- just a very brief walk from the Piece Hall, with the bus station and cheap parking on the doorstep. But my room was in a poor state, with a stained carpet, pen graffiti on the wooden furniture, and electric cables pinned down with gaffer tape. The electronic door handle was loose which gave me no confidence that the room was locked or secure. I paid very little so it was fine for the price, but do not expect luxury!

Upon first entering the reception is nice. It looks to have had a recent refurb. The receptionist was welcoming. We were given a room on the third floor, there is a lift. The layout of the hotel was like a rabbit warren a confusing at times, but we found our way around. Upon entering the room it had a lounge, bathroom and bedroom, which would have been lovely. Unfortunately it was very tired and in need of a good clean, paint and new carpets / curtains. The hotel looks to be part way through a refurbishment, which when completed could be lovely. It is such a shame as the location is fabulous for Piece Hall and town. Breakfast was a slice of bread / toast with a slice of ham, cheese or honey. There was also a hot water boiler for tea / coffee. Really not enticing and due to the room and breakfast we chose to leave earlier than planned. There is a car park next door, which if staying for a while would be expensive, but you can get a YPS space just up the road, a short walk away, for a fraction of the price.

Simply put, do not stay here at any price. It is filthy. No hot water. Bathroom sink had only a cold tap. Toothpaste all over sink, tap and glass shelf. Dirty, stained, filthy carpets. Bony mattresses. Bathroom dirty. No one to check out. Hotel not manned. So bad, I would not risk eating Breakfast. Seriously concerned about bed bugs but if I've brought them home from The Wool Merchant, I will 100% take legal action against the owners.

Affordably good quality accommodation with fabulous service. From the initial welcome to the time we departed and throughout the stay, we received the most professional, efficient, polite and friendly service from everyone of the hotel’s team we encountered, with special mention to the awesome Simon. The affordable rooms within this historic building are clean and functional; above all, they are very clean and comfortable with modern facilities like free-view television and reliable hotel Wi-Fi. The bed was comfy with crisp linen atop good duvet and pillows all of which aided a good nights sleep (some rooms might be noisy given the proximity to a reasonably busy road). The en-suite bathroom was also spotlessly clean with good water pressure to the shower and soft towels, complemented by some small bottles of shampoo and conditioner. The free breakfast was adequate and welcome, with a basic hot and cold self service buffet selection The hotel is located on the edge of the town centre of Halifax just a ten-minute walk from the railway station and even less of an amble from the bus station, and the same distance to the Peace Hall, also very close to the town's retail and leisure attractions. A good value for money friendly hotel in a good location, I can highly recommend. The hotel has new owners and management.
