The earlier comments have certainly been taken to heart; the accommodation was clean and the amenities were good. Although the twin room was sparsely furnished, it was good enough for an overnight stay. However, if you're a side sleeper like we were, you might find the futons to be too thin to be truly comfortable. Excellent place for backpackers and short-stay, not so much for families or extended stays.

Despite the beautiful location of the hotel, the staff and facilities were unfortunately very uninviting. No amenities were given and everything had to be bought at an extra cost. Additionally the hotel bar did not have change so you had to pay with the exact amount if you wanted to get a drink. Finally, the room itself was decent, felt clean but unfortunately the futons were extremely uncomfortable (and I sleep on Japanese futon very often). Don't count out hakone from your trip but I would recommend looking elsewhere if you plan on staying.

The futon’s aren’t very thick so it can be a bit uncomfortable if you’re a side sleeper. Other than that our stay was great. The owner, Yudai, is incredible and has an excellent sense of hospitality. When I come to Hakone again this place will be at the top of my list.
