Gorgeous stay with kids and family. Spacious area with kitchen and dining area. High quality in-room facilities. We were not family with self-check in and no people concierge service, but after finish the entire process, we felt well. Will recommend family to come and stay.

This is a great hotel with private onsen in each room. It’s right off the Chokokunomori station at the switch back on the road. A 5 minute walk. It is self check-in and was very spacious. Booked last minute and got a great deal!

Mind blowing. Nicest hotel room we have ever stayed in. We stayed atop in room 405, and we had 3.5 private onsens (one inddor hot, one outdoor hot, one indoor cold, and one outdoor foot bath) plus a sauna. And a kitchen w/ bbq. And a projector. And the largest TV I have ever seen. ANd.... Just magical. Can stay here without a car too: just use bus/train. Roads are dangerous, so find the hidden paths if you can (e.g., there is a super charming path hidden behind the nearby train station to across the street from the hotel, that is even lit up at night). A pleasant walk to the Hakone Open Air Museum (~20 min or so) and the Ropeway. So good, so good....

The most amazing stay in Hakone! It truly felt like a retreat and wished I would have stayed an extra night. We rented a car during our stay and it was easy to navigate from hotel to the lake. Room was huge and had everything we could have ever needed. Onsen was great and the balcony view was absolutely beautiful. Will definitely be back!!

Loved this place. It had all the amenities you could ask for and it was super clean. We really enjoyed the hot spring foot bath on the porch. Only issue I had was that our tour we were on before reaching here finished early, so we got to the property 2 hours before check in time. You couldn't access the common area to wait for check in nor were there any benches outside, so we ended up sitting on the ground under the hot sun - would have been nice if they had had a small shaded area with bench outside that we could have waited in.

Quiet, clean, modern and family friendly property. Good location, near subway and bus station to access attractions in the area within very reasonable amount of time. Property has plenty of space with private dry sauna and hot spring tub for convenient access. Wish that we have abundance of time to spend and enjoy this property. Highly recommended for winding down and quiet family time away from the bustling cities.

Very modern, clean and comfotable, with inroom onsen and sauna with red light and outside footbath in every suit, even a telescope and a projector. The only downfall is its not walking distance to any stores or restaurants you need to take a cab.

Although needing a train to access this place massively exceeded our expectations. The apartment was enormous with the luxury of a private semi outdoor thermal bath & a sauna. For a family of 5 this was absolutely perfect, very glad we chose here & not the other older hotels in the area

Wow - this place was amazing. I felt so spoiled coming back at the end of each day and soaking in the foot bath or onsen tub in our beautiful apartment. The kitchen and bathroom are also fantastic. There are not many restaurants near by, but we didn't mind bringing food with us to cook. There is also a 7-11 for supplies a 15-minute walk up the hill. We could easily catch the bus or train from here for our daily adventures. Our kids liked the foot bath and big projector screen for watching shows in the evening.

The Rakuten was a tech heavy experience. It is an unstaffed hotel and the check in process is handled through a tablet at the entry. Kuwakudani in Hakone is quite isolated. You can walk to nearby towns but you have to along the side of busy roads. The room was heavy with tech. We had a tv, projector and a portable projector. The bath and shower were awesome. And we loved the outdoor foot bath. The room was spacious and very clean. I would recommend bringing groceries and taking advantage of the full kitchen even if you are a tourist. Call me old school, but I still like having a check in and front desk staffed by people. I could have used someone to help answered questions and help me familiarize with the complexities of public transportation in those areas. All in all a great stay and a very affordable price for the accommodation.
