We stayed with kids and really enjoyed our stay here. Hotel is cobwebs located near the railway and bus stations with plenty of food options.

We had a pleasant stay and enjoyed the hotel buffet breakfast (great if you want to build your own seafood rice bowl) and the Japanese style breakfast that was offered. The room’s AC was cold and we also tried out the public onsen. After the onsen, you can enjoy a free popsicle, which was a nice touch. The hotel is ~10 minute walk to the JR station. The only downside we noticed is the bathroom in the hotel room kept smelling like sewage and was not very pleasant.

It was a very nice and comfortable stay for two nights. The room is clean. An onsen is also available in the hotel. The only thing to complain about would be the hard pillow which is not so suitable for us.

Unpleasant Odor in the Room

Hello. I stayed at your hotel from July 9th to 13th. Overall, I was very satisfied with the service and the food — everything was excellent. However, I did experience some discomfort due to a persistent unpleasant smell in the room, which resembled a sewer or bathroom odor. Additionally, the hallway and walking space in the room, where three people stayed, felt rather narrow. The area around the table and separate chairs also felt quite cramped. I’m not sure if improvements are possible, but I believe the overall guest experience would be even better if the in-room environment could be enhanced a bit. Thank you very much.

The room my family first got had a problem. The mattress of my bed was damaged , so i fell very uncomfortable when sleeping. I asked the receptionist to cmattress for me. My first room’s bed had a problem, the mattress of my wife’s bed was damaged at the middle part, I asked the receptionist to change the mattress. The manager from the receptionist apologized and upgraded me to a premium high class room for free. Also the hotel receptionist accepted us check in early. I will choose this hotel again if come here one more time.

Our experience is definitely a good one. Lobby: very clean, modern and beautiful Location: in the middle of morning market and red brick/Toyokawacho. its exactly why i chose this location. Room: Clean but rather small for a double bed. Parking: Plenty of parking. When enting, take the ticket to exchange for an exit ticket. total will be charge upon checking out. Onsen: Not very big onsen. Men's consist of an indoor and an outdoor. over seeing the train station and morning market. changing room is large and 3~4 flavours of popsicles are provided outside the the onsen.

We stayed here during a Holiday week. We got a fantastic rate for about $100 but the second night we cancelled because same room was $380. Since we only paid $100 for the room it was worth the money. Had we spent $380 it would not have been. They cater to the asian tourist. Some staff (but not all) were very helpful, but one bad person completely ruined my stay. After I complained, management sent a note to apologize, but that was it. We went to the La Vista down the street and for a similar rate of $300/night it was way better! The Kokusai hotel was not 'charming' it felt like a conference center. The breakfast that was included was adequate, but nothing to write home about. The rooms were clean, but the bathroom felt like a RV(mobile park) bathroom. Everything was plastic (even the walls) and there was a weird odor (pesticide?) not sure if it was the cleaning supplies. Hakodate may have been a bad experience had we only stayed at the Kokusai, but we actually loved the locals that owned bars and restaurants. Fell in love with the town. Just would not repeat another stay at the Kokusai in Hakodate.
