The staff were all friendly and welcoming. The rooms were small, but clean, cute, and comfortable. The breakfast was delicious. The view from the terrace was amazing. I'll definitely come back.

Lovely hotel. Great staff and breakfast and fantastic view of mountains. Just know that the 15 min walk from rail station is up the side of a steep mountain and it’s a car free area so no taxi and no hotel transport. Travel light.

The view from our room/balcony was priceless, very clean with daily service, excellent breakfast, very friendly hosts and staff. Authentic Swiss chalet . The path to reach is very steep, do not bring large suitcases.

There's no doubt about it, the location and view of the mountains from our apartment was exceptional and that is what we paid for. I'm fairly sure that some of the rooms had been upgraded, but not our room. The bathroom door was frosted, heavy and so noisy that you had to hang on to it to open and close it. But it didn't end there...there was zero water pressure and very cold water. I had to take a bath instead of a shower so that I could get some lukewarm water to sit in. This was changed after I complained about it...and then it was scalding hot. The room needs major upgrading. I noticed that the apartment next to us had carpet on the floor which this place absolutely needed. And super tiny. I didn't even bother unpacking my suitcase even though we were scheduled to stay for 5 nights. We ended up leaving a day early. Please note that most of the places in Grindelwald will have a good view of the Eiger if they are on the side facing the mountains...you don't need to climb a hill to get that view. On the positive side...Carolina and staff...they were wonderful! The breakfast was excellent. I can't say enough good things about how efficient, helpful and kind they were. I would return if Carolina and her coworkers were there, but I'd ask for a different room.

Lovely hotel and lovely staff but if you don’t enjoy a walk up hill from town or stairs (there’s no lift) then probably best to choose one of the numerous hotels that are in town and a short walk from the train station. This hotel is quieter than others and has a breathtaking view but after one night we were glad to have booked at one of the more convenient hotels on the Main Street because after a day of hiking there was no way we wanted to trudge up and down to get to our hotel and then once again to go for dinner and back.

Got lovely views of Grindelwald from the hotel room. The staff were helpful and friendly. Take advantage of their free breakfast - they’re good! Besides there are limited options to eat from within the area is you wish to eat super early in the morning. Only con to this hotel is that it’s ~7 min uphill away from the main street.

The stay was okey but could be much better. Disappointed with no AC at all or at least a fan. It was super hot in the lobby and in my room as well. As a solution the staff suggested to open the windows to get some air. The windows don't have a mosquito net so all the bugs and flies were coming as soon as you open the window. Another big disappointment that there is no iron in the hotel for the guests.

The condition of the hotel is a bit old, the blanket itself turns yellow and with stains which make me feels uncomfortable. Also, there were a lot of little insects around the room, so please be careful to choose when you concerns the above. You also need to walk through quite a number of inclined road and there is no lift inside the building. Other than that, the hotel staff is friendly and the breakfast is good.

What a lovely place to stay. The mountain view from both the bedroom and breakfast rooms were fantastic. As the hotel has an elevated position above the town the view is uninterrupted...certainly worth a little extra for a mountain view room with a balcony. The room in the chalet was atmospheric, warm and cosy and very clean. The hotel's elevated position does mean you have a steep path to walk up so a reasonable level of mobility is required...we were there in the snow and it was manageable but icy in places so good footwear is a good idea. The hotel proprietor was most affable and the staff were very pleasant and helpful. I highly recommend this hotel for its quality, ambience and the views of the mountains, and the Eiger in particular, are simply stunning. From the balcony we watched skiers and sledgers coming down the floodlit pistes every evening whilst having a beer. The hotel is very conveniently located for the town and railway station and hence trips up the mountain on the Jungfrau rack and pinion railway. If coming by train from one of the airports don't forget to buy a Swiss Rail half price pass as this gets you half price on the Jungfrau 'Top of Europe' railway and on the main cabin lifts as well as from the airport itself. We can not wait to go back to Hotel Sonnenberg again both in the summer and winter.

First the main picture of a beautiful lake and mountain view is not from or near the hotel. The hotel is located on top of a hill without direct car access. Need to park and then hike 30 degree uphill for 5 minutes to reach the door. One of the heater missing control knob but fixed the following day. There are sharp edge at bed and easy to get hurt in this tight room. The toilet bowl is right next to the shower drain pan that the corner of the drain pan make it uncomfortable to sit down. It is hard to describe though. The breakfast staff is nice and friendly. But the location and property do noy justiy the cost.

Wunderschöner Blick auf die Berge und Personal, das wirklich bemüht ist, dass man sich wohlfühlt. Frühstücksbüffet war reichhaltig und selbst das gepackte Frühstück zum Mitnehmen (früher Start) konnte sich wirklich sehen lassen. Wichtig zu wissen: Man sollte körperlich fit sein, da der Weg zum Hotel durchaus steil ist und das letzte Stück nur zu Fuß möglich ist
