Booked a family room for myself and granddaughter’s nearly 3 and 2 years old. Was told they don’t provide cots, room was up 4 flights of stairs. Room was large and clean but could do with updating the decor and carpets.

Good quiet location.

Booked this hotel due to its good proximity to Grimsby, very quiet in its own grounds with plenty of parking. Breakfast was great value for money and I had an enjoyable stay.

Lovely hotel in a beautiful setting

Lovely hotel in a beautiful setting. Combining original features of a quite stately home, with the style and comfort of a modern hotel. Particularly impressed with the number of plug sockets so we could both charge our phones overnight on our bedside tables.

Okay for Grimsby out of town

Small room. Low water pressure in the shower. Great to have seafood options for breakfast. Pity the 'three scrambled eggs' with salmon one morning was around one egg and very overcooked. Evening meals were fine.

A good 3 star hotel

We enjoyed our stay at the Oaklands Hotel. The room was a good size, the bed was reasonably comfortable, and the bathroom was huge but missing useful storage space. The shower wasn’t as clean as it could have been and the plug hole was in need of a good unclogging. One other thing that would have made the stay better is changing the window blind to a blackout blind - it let in a huge amount of light. The breakfast was very good (both continental and cooked), and the staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay. The Oaklands is a solid 3 star hotel and we would be happy to stay here again.

Uncomfortable

The building is lovely and everything was very clean. But my real problem was with the response I got when I checked out and made a comment about the bed in room 1. We found the bed extremely uncomfortable, you could feel every spring in the mattress - clearly an old mattress. I did not sleep well at all so I made a comment on check out and the response of "oh sorry" didnt feel very genuine at all. I will not recommend this hotel to friends and family.

Because I was planning on arriving late, I’d informed them of this via email and received a reply immediately saying that was no issue. Great initial comms. Although the front door is huge, it wasn’t instantly obvious that was where I needed to go as it was closed and not particularly well lit. It could benefit from a sign! I was quickly helped at reception by a lovely assistant who was helpful and processed me quickly. Off to my room I went. What a beautiful building! I was in room number 1 which I investigated quickly. A slightly bizarre layout in the bathroom amused me. The shelf was randomly placed as far away as possible from the sink, which was where it logically needed to be. Not to worry, it was all clean and in working condition. Not so good was the bed. When I sat on it, there was a lot of creaking and it felt as if it was on a tilt. It was also as if I was sat on a board, not a mattress. Closer inspection revealed a 4” thick mattress which I was able to compress to virtually nothing, simply with my hand. I took the rare decision to call reception and request a room change. The same assistant was really helpful and was able to find me a replacement room. The second room was significantly better and I had a good nights rest. Breakfast was lovely, 10/10 for the staff. Every one I encountered was lovely. It was just the bed which let things down. The lady on reception did inform me that she had passed on my comments to management.

Didn’t get what we paid for - Staff didn’t care!

Booked a family room which was advertised as a King sized bed with a single. We received the world’s most uncomfortable double bed in what can be best described as a sauna. The room was 25•C when we entered. Luckily there was air con which battled all night against the hotels heating. Brought it up with the member of staff on reception and he couldn’t have cared less, he stated we received a triple room which is what we paid for, I explained that the listing specifically stated a king sized bed (which is why we booked this specific room as my husband is tall) and he didn’t even respond. Breakfast was nice, but all the poached eggs were hard. Won’t ever stay here again.
