Always a joy to return

Staff are warm welcoming and friendly. Food is great especially the full english breakfast. Rooms are clean beds are really comfy. Its a 17th century building with all the quirks you would expect. There is a huge beer garden and parking in a nice village location

Perfect stay

From the moment i got there i was made to feel welcome, its a lovely old building with tons of character, even down to little mice painted on the skirting boards. The chef went above and beyond to accommodate meals and even came out to chat to understand what i wanted. I will certainly be staying there again and would recommend to anyone. Phil (Shropshire)

Pleasant stay.

A pleasant nights stay. Large room and ensuite. Noise from the bar and pub garden but to be expected as rooms are over the pub , but it was quiet after 11pm. Breakfast choice, cereal and full English which was good.

Lovely 17th century hotel/pub

Great 17th century hotel/pub full of history and character. Our room was a good size and the bed was very comfortable. We had an on suite and this was a good size. We only had breakfast but it was lovely and the service was great. We only stayed here to break a journey up but we’re really glad we did. Would definitely stay here again.

Loved the four poster bed and the old fashioned feel to the property. It was lovely to stay in a property unlike the commercial hotels of the current world. And a very charming building and with a really lovely warm feeling

We have been here twice now The staff are friendly, accommodation cosy, historical and fascinating! Such a beautiful place to stay within a lovely village. We brought our friends here this week to show it off!! They loved it. Can’t wait for next visit!

Just OK for a night's stay

Very interesting hotel with lots of character. Friendly staff. Poor ensuite, too small, no water power on the shower and basin not suitable for a wet shave. Comfortable bed but squeaky floors. Food poor quality

The Leather Bottle has that unique charm that is quite often lost, from the flagstone corridors, the creaky floorboards to the pictures on the walls. From the moment you check in to the moment you leave you feel you have entered the world of Charles Dickens, from a drink and some food in the restaurant to quietly reading in the snug.it feels nice. We are already making plans to revisit later in the year and explore Kent.

Well worth a Visit

The Leather Bottle was well worth our stay. It’s historic links to Charles Dickens makes it a must visit for those interested in the author. Full of photos. drawings and personal items belonging to the author. Apart from that this 500 year old building is well worth a visit in it’s entirety. Cosy clean and comfortable breakfast included,with a excellent bar although no Campari when we stayed there. A good menu with plenty of choice. Overall well with a visit.

Much is made of Dickens' connection with the inn but it's not been dusted or the carpet shampooed since his visit. We were seduced by the half-timber exterior but inside is all very dreary and tired, an upgrade long overdue. Strong bitter coffee undrinkable. Lesson learned.
