We were there during the off season so...there weren't many restaurants open at this time. We had to go into Garmische to enjoy a meal.

Close to Garmisch. But, Garmisch is getting big and loosing it’s small town ambiance.

Grainau is very small, but it is next to Garmisch so there are a lot of dining and shopping options nearby. Grainau is a great place to stay to take advantage of the Zugspitze, Eibsee, etc.
