Der Name stammt von dem ursprünglichen Namen 'Borgo delle Ninfe'. Die Grundsteinlegung der vom Architekten Agostino Barelli stammenden Anlage war 1664. Im 18 Jh. wurde die Gartenanlagen erweitert um im Stil des französischem Barocks umgestaltet. Heute der Nymphenburger Schlosspark eine der größten und bedeutendsten Gartenkunstwerke Deutschlands.
