Des fouilles réalisées en 1940 on permis de retrouver de nombreux ossements ainsi que des silex taillés. Grès à sabals: Les grès à sabalites sont le témoin d'un climat tropical en Anjou. Les fossiles végétaux, feuilles de palmier sabalites de l’éocène (55- 33 millions d'années) figurent dans la formation dite des «grès à sabals».
