The property offers a great combination of traditional and contemporary architecture in beautiful surroundings. The gardens are stunning. Great level of privacy and customer service, which is professional and attentive, yet warm.

Our third visit to this hotel. The hotel is located within fabulous gardens and is simply wonderful. With the old manor house, the Italian pool, the banana plantation and so many different species of plants and trees, the hotel itself is a holiday. It was lovely to see that breakfast in the Garden Pavilion had started again after covid, it is always a perfect way to start the day, wide choice and excellent service, and an al fresco breakfast in January overlooking the gardens is a real treat, compared to Atlantic gales in Cornwall. There is also a sizable enclosed by the garden outside swimming pool. All the staff at the hotel are all excellent. They are friendly, attentive and tried their utmost to make our stay as perfect as possible. We were particularly pleased to see many familiar faces from previous stays, a true sign of a good hotel. We have stayed in two types of their bedrooms and both offer good size, facilities and quality accommodation. We have not yet stretched to a stay in the manor house suites, but they look impressive. We had a few days were we relaxed, late long breakfast, reading books, walking the gardens, etc and the rest of the time we spent in Funchal town and along the coast. Funchal is walking distance from the hotel (25 mins) and we did not submit and get a bus or taxi back up the steep drag from the town. The last hill is challenging on the way back but you can get a bus!

I loved the fact that this property was in a very quiet neighborhood, yet a very short and pleasant walk to dining, shopping and sightseeing options downtown. Grounds were lovely. Beds comfortable. Constant hum in room audible.... A/C was off. Small TV on only piece of furniture in the room. We could have used more surface area to spread out. Surprised that small individual toiletries provided rather than larger, easier to use dispensers. Not very environmentally friendly. 1 hand towel was dirty on arrival. We were only staying 2 nights so didn't want room serviced ie less washing etc, so left no service sign on door. This was adhered to. However, on our return after evening meal, housekeeping had been in to do turn down and replenished all towels and empty bins....which we had tried to avoid in the morning. Just seems a waste of energy and resources. I do feel like we were not quite as well looked after/welcomed as others. We were mother/daughter guests.
