We enjoyed staying at golden residence. Location was great, breakfast bar with lots of different options available, housekeeping was excellent. Although recenption staff were friendly they wouldn’t provide any information unless you ask them and I think hotel is missing some kids entertainment when we had heavy rainy days.

Staff is extraordinarily helpful, breakfast buffet has terrific variety, and spa service was very good. I lost a rental car key and the staff helped me call the car company and a tow truck service. Above and beyond! Highly recommend a visit to this hotel.

The air conditionning system was out of order for the whole A block. It was hot in our room. The staff provided us two fans. Elevators are slow. Breakfeast buffet is excellent. Staff is smiling.

4-star location + buffet, 3-star rooms + service

Pros: 1. Location allows for nice sunsets 2. Breakfast buffet is good Cons: 1. Rooms are quite dated and not reflective of what a 4 star hotel should provide 2. Service can leave you feeling unappreciated 3. Shower randomly changes temperature from comfortable to scalding 4. The resistance training options in the gym are quite poor, even by hotel gym standards

Great hotel but needs better management.

The hotel is ideally located to local amenities. The rooms were very clean and large. However, we had to remove a cockroach from the room once. The breakfast had limited hot food choices for vegetarians at times. The only area where we were not please was that certain facilities were time based only. Steam, sauna and Jacuzzi were only switched on between 5pm - 9pm. Quite often they didn't work well either. We also had to book a breakfast slot for each day.

Good hotel with bad breakfast experience

Positive: Spacious room, comfortable bed, relatively clean, nice pool and garden (towels were provided free of charge), good internet connection. Bus line 2 to the city center stops right in front of the hotel. Day tickets for all buses in Funchal can be bought at the reception for 5 euros each (walking time to the city center is about 45 minutes). Negative: It would be nice if the breakfast room opened before 7:30 a.m., because most guided tours start at 8:00 a.m., so we never had enough time for breakfast. Also, the atmosphere in the breakfast room was very bad at times (people were acting like animals on the hunt, it was very noisy). There is a gym but it needs better maintenance or even new equipment.

Resort was great and location was beautiful. The indoor pool area had a very strong aroma of chlorine and was poorly ventilated. As a result of spending only 15 minutes there, I had a terrible reaction causing strong cold symptoms (sneezing, running nose, etc) that lasted 3-4 days afterward. Not fun to deal with for the remainder of my vacation!

This was a reservation I’ve done for my parents and I heard nothing but good comments from them. Unfortunately, my father had an health issue during the stay and the staff was excellent. Called the doctor to come, ask all the time if my mother needed anything from their side. They were truly great on the support and for that I’m really appreciated. For the hotel, great spot, beautiful surroundings, quiet, clean, a very good breakfast ! For sure a name to save and a stay to repeat !

We hadden een geweldig verblijf in golden residence hotel Prachtige ligging aan zee met zicht op de bergen Onze kamer had zicht op het zwembad en op de zee. Het hotel ligt niet ver van het centrum en de bussen stoppen Voor de deur. Het is op wandelafstand van forum madeira, supermarkt en eetgelegenheden. Het personeel is vriendelijk maar mocht van mij net iets enthousiaster zijn. Op vakantie hou ik wel van wat extra enthousiasme

I loved it! I had a sea view and as expected the sunset was amazing from any angle of the hotel. I enjoyed the breakfast served here. The front desk staff were very professional & helpful. The location it's conveniently (15-minutes away from Funchal) if you decide not to rent a car since public transportation is reliable in the area, literally there is a bus stop right in front of the hotel.... Well recommended.
