Room at arrival was clean, but after not being washing

This is a lovely hotel. We stayed in on of the garden "cottages". It was a perfect room and offered a little privacy. I would definitely stay there again. It was a quiet area, but close to everything for walkability.

I usually don’t write reviews, but since the staff was less then helpful when I complained to them, I felt the need to inform the public about this hotel and my experience. I booked an ocean view hotel thru Expedia, however the room I was given was a garden view with “partial” ocean view. I showed the photo to the desk clerk and he told me I was wrong and he knew the side of the hotel my room was on and that I did have an ocean view. He was extremely rude when he told me that because I booked thru Expedia, and didn’t book an ocean ”front” view, it was my fault. Another issue I had was the hidden resort fees that need to be paid when you get to the hotel. I normally don’t mind paying for resort fees, but half of the amenities were not available. The beach was closed because of ongoing construction. The pool was dirty. None of the elevators worked so if you are in a wheelchair, you will have to find someone to carry you up 3-4 flights of stairs. The smell at the pool was disgusting and smelled like sewage all the time. The water pressure in the room was also horrible and we never felt clean even after a shower. Lastly, the coffee pot in the room was broken. No one seemed concerned about these issues when I spoke to the staff and said that it was because I hooked thru Expedia and I get what I pay for.

The listing says this property is “on beach property,” but it is not on the beach or even close to a beach, which was very misleading. While we were staying there, the pool was also resurfaced. We were told that it was a “last-minute” discovery that the pool needed to be closed, but this significantly affected our stay. We also had trouble getting ahold of anyone when we had questions or concerns. Calls to the management/maintenance contact went unanswered, and no one returned our calls. Another issue was the condition of the balconies. We were on one of the lower floors, and whenever the guests above us used their deck, dirt and sand would fall down onto ours while we were sitting outside. It made it very unpleasant to actually use the outdoor space. Overall, the property description was misleading, the unexpected pool closure was disappointing, communication was poor, and the balcony situation made the stay less enjoyable than expected.
