The rooms at Drakesbad are basic but do have a sink and toilet. The shower block is about 100 yards away. The food is very good and 3 meals per day included. The trails are overgrown and it is about 1.5 hours drive to the main park entrance and trails like bumpass. It is a nice place to get away from it all and the staff is very friendly

This property was severely impacted by the Dixie fire of 2021 and the flooding months after. Seeing the fire devastation all around it is amazing this property survived. The accommodations are rustic. Staff was super helpful and friendly. Food was good and accommodating to various diets. Advertising needs to be corrected. There is no pool. Showers are a walk from accommodations.

The staff were pleasant, so friendly and fun to talk to. Everyone was extremely accommodating. The food was simple but exceptional. There was plenty to do from horseback riding and hiking to board games and bonfires. Truly a memorable experience.

We had a wonderful time staying at Drakesbad! 3 meals a day included prepared by chef Sal. Ike the manager was very helpful and gave us a ton of history on the property and area. We had never stayed anywhere like it. Tons of board games and outside games, horseshoes, cornhoke, ping pong. Very remote so beautiful stars at night and nightly campfires for everyone to enjoy. So glad they were able to reopen!

On national park land but not near the main entrance if that is what you are looking for. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Our room did not have a shower which we did not realize until check in. Too late to change when we got there. Docked one star for lacking that info when we booked. As well as not being close to the actual main entrance to the park which was about 1.5 hours away from the guest ranch. On the plus side the hikes from our stay had very few people on the trail. The forest around the guest ranch burned in 2021 causing massive damage to the area so the hikes had little shade and the trees were very sad to see. My husband loved this place. I probably wouldn’t book it again unless I just wanted to be I. The middle of nowhere. Dinner was good. We used the sack lunches on our hikes (also included with the stay). Breakfast was a usual hotel style breakfast. They also serve beer and wine for an additional fee.

Drakesbad was such an enjoyable stay! The free meals in their dining hall were an amazing perk especially since there’s nothing nearby and the food was INCREDIBLE! The staff were all very friendly and hospitable too. But be aware that the ranch is about 1.5 hours from the entrance of Lassen, which was a surprise for us. Otherwise, highly recommend! The rooms are no frills but it works for what you need.

Drakesbad Guest Ranch is located in the remote Warren Valley, although it is part of Lassen Volcanic National Park. It is famous throughout northern CA as a place where families can vacation, setting the kids free to run through its gorgeous meadow, fish at Dream Lake, ride horses to Devil's Kitchen (volcanic mud pots) and hike back trails to Boiling Lake & beyond. A small paradise on earth, it was always booked at least a year in advance. After the devastating Dixie Fire which ran through the area (2nd largest fire in CA history), the area has now rebounded, the meadow as lush as ever, green pine trees still stand at lower elevations and you can see how quickly the forest is rebounding. Ranch staff are wonderfully friendly and helpful, the food is abundant and good. Please help this place to stay alive and thrive. The reward is golden meadows, gorgeous hikes, and stunning dark Milky Way skies.

Quaint and rustic retreat with wonderful people making the experience even better. Access to Mt Lassen Volcanic Park, trails and thermal pools. Close to Lake Almanor. Built in 1910, rooms in the lodge are small, only a bed & folding chair, but downstairs a large communal area offers multiple comfortable seating areas - big wingback leather chairs and a deep couch. Game rack in the corner, large wood stove in the middle. Some places show their age - the sagging deck- But care is taken. Bathrooms have a sink & toilet. Showers are available in a funky bathhouse down the path. If you don’t eat what’s on offer in the cafe, they’ll make you something else. Standard buffet breakfast - Belgian waffles, eggs, sausage, hash-browns, bagels, cereals. If the right people are working, you can get an espresso with nondairy milks, too. No outlets in the rooms - bring a battery for your CPAP or ask the staff for an attachment. Horses appeared well cared for.
