Its current markings of black with two yellow bands have been in place since 1954. The color of the light was changed from white to red on 1st July 1860. The tower was originally only 14m tall. It was extended to its current dizzying height of 40m in the 1880's and is now the tallest onshore lighthouse on the Irish coast. The lighthouse was automated in 1981. Fabulous stay at apartment 2B Added bonus with outdoor garden space. It had everything we needed and more for our stay. Spotlessly clean, would highly recommend

Lovely apartment. We had a really nice few days here. No allocated parking, but we never had a problem finding a space close by. Good to have a shop so close (literally under our feet.) Facilities were good; enough kitchen utensils, pans, etc. that we could cook meals with no problems. Nice bathroom and excellent lounge area. Seating area and space outside as well if the weather permits. Nice area to walk around as well, with harbour and coast very close by. The location is a bit off the beaten track but that is probably in its favour; and It didn't take long to drive to some of the many local attractions.
