Vacations Close To Devonian Fossil Gorge

After reading multiple reviews by others…it is obvious that my situation has happened before. I checked in Aug 25, 2026 about 4:15 pm. As soon as I walked in the door, I felt like I should’ve stayed elsewhere. No hostess so tapped the bell. Few minutes later I am greeted by the most unwelcoming hostess. I gave her some grace thinking she had a bad day. She pushed the key over to me…no directions to the room and no “Hope you enjoy your visit”. Found the room and opened the door to an OCCUPIED room. Go back down and ask for a refund. Right away she gets defensive and tells me she can’t. I asked to speak to the manager…5,6,7 times I asked and she REFUSED each time to call one. She said I was trying to get her fired and threatened to call the cops on me because I cursed at her…sure did after her flat out refusing to call. Finally she calls a manager and said manager made me believe that when she got home that she would take care of the refund. Next day, still no call or text back from her. I stopped back in after customer relations told me I had to go thru the hotel to get the refund. Above manager was there and told me that she spoke to the owner and said “after listening to her side and your side, we cannot refund because she offered to give you the correct room key”. Why would I chose to stay there after she gave me someone else’s room key…what if she gave some stranger a key MY room? Been trying to contact hotel directly for a week now & the call does not ring thru.

The bed was comfy and the room was very well lit. Room was a comfortable temp upon arrival. One of the better hotels I've stayed in.

Room smelled moldy. Shower ceiling had the look of covered up mold. My shoes and socks were sticking to the carpet in the room. Was there a total of 7 hours on our way through town. Major updates need to happen or close.

We checked into a handicap room for a 4 night stay. It was very musty and there was black mold on the wall. The night staff (9 pm) left a note for the manager The morning staff upgraded us to a handicap suite at no charge.

Everything was folded nicely when I got there and looked decent at first, but it smelled really old and kinda gross. Sink countertop corner had mold and the bathroom fan was very dirty. Checked in with my boyfriend but left within an hour bc I saw various concerning google reviews about bedbugs and cockroaches being seen here on MULTIPLE recent occasions. I did check one of the two mattresses and didn't see anything, but once I saw that there was a bedbug indicent reported in LATE JUNE 2026, i couldn't do it. I didn't even bother checking under the bed or the furniture after that, I just really didn't want to take my chances. And after the smell and certain things not being clean I wasn't buying it either sadly. I understand bedbugs can show up at any hotel, flashy/new or not. However it's how it's HANDLED as well that influences my comfort level. Multiple google reviews said that staff have not treated this issue with much urgency or care for past clients whenever these bedbug incidents happened, and that made me very uncomfortable. Beds were pretty uncomfortable. AC unit worked well at least and breakfast bar/common area looked nice. The person I talked to for a refund was great, which I was also scared about after reading reviews about the staff not being helpful or kind at times. These reviews on hotels.com are a little misleading. The reviews on google are more accurate. I definitely don't think this is a 10/10 or an 8.8 worthy, maybe more of a 5 or a 6.
