Also, my Mandarin, which is minimal, but worked fine in Guangzhou, was incomprehensible here where perhaps there are fewer foreigners. I could not ever figure out where the breakfast was. I finally moved to a hotel closer to the university, where more effort was made by staff to work with me to mutually communicate. Mostly this is a Chinese business hotel. ...
