Dalian is a great city. Big, but not overwhelming. Friendly people and love the location by the sea.
Well-liked for its breweries and zoo, Dalian City Center is worth a visit. Check out the variety of things to see and do like Zhongshan Square and Dalian Botanical Garden, and jump on the metro at Dalian Rapid Transit Station to get around the city.
You'll enjoy the beaches and breweries in Zhong Shan. You might want to make time for a stop at Zhongshan Square or Port of Dalian.
If you're spending time in Jinzhou District, check out sights like Dalian Golden Pebble Waxworks Museum or Golden Coast West Bathing Beach and hop on the metro to see more the city at Xiaoyaowan Station or DD Port Station.

Its a business development zone. Not a lot of western type tourist activities. But a couple of nice parks within walking distance. I did a LOT of walking when I was there. Not a lot of western travelers, so work on your Chinese!!
Very pretty, cozy city, with fresh local seafood.
