Adventure somewhere over the rainbow. After a 2-day, 17-mile trek around Nevado Ausangate we arrived at Vinicunca, also known as Montaña de Siete Colores, or Rainbow Mountain. This mountain sits a little over 16,000 feet and was only recently discovered after the snow and ice covering the mountain thawed. The rainbow colors are caused by different minerals deposited in the soil. If you plan on taking an adventure to this location, a few days of acclimation to higher altitude in Cusco is advised.
