Site of Eydon Road Halt, near Culworth 1992. View northward: a sylvan scene where once ran the important ex-Great Central line between Woodford Halse (Culworth Junction) on the 'London Extension' and Banbury on the ex-GWR system. Halts on this line were served by a few local trains, but the line mainly served as an important link for North-South freight and some through express passenger traffic - until at a stroke all was abandoned on 5/9/66, and since then everything has proceeded along the A34 road system

Danes Moor This was the site of an important battle during the Wars of the Roses - the Battle of Edgcote in July 1469. An army consisting mainly of Welshmen under the Earl of Pembroke was defeated by a rebel army marching south to join the Earl of Warwick, who was plotting against the King, Edward IV.

Danesmoor (site of the Battle of Edgcote) The Battle of Edgcote during the Wars of the Roses took place in this now tranquil vale close to the river Cherwel. The Earl of Pembroke and his mainly Welsh troops were travelling north to support Edward IV at Nottingham and came upon the rebel army led by Robin of Redesdale who were moving south to join forces with Warwick (the Kingmaker). The battle on the 26th July 1469 was a black day for the Welsh, Pembroke was captured and executed and 168 Welsh noblemen were killed along with many hundreds of common soldiers.
