This garden is located behind the mairie (hôtel de ville, or town hall). It has two entrances : one to the north side towards the Avenue du Chemin Blanc, the other to the south behind the Place de l'Hôtel de Ville. This view is from the north entrance. On its north and west sides there are remains of the old town's fortifications, with a tower at the north-west corner (visible from the Avenue du Chemin Blanc). The war monument for the 1914-18 war, with a nice statue of a winged République allegory, is at the south entrance of the Metelen garden.

Looking north-west from the center of the panorama place at the château-haut, we see part of the west battlements of the castle. These remnants of fortifications include here two towers and their curtain wall, with part of the chemin de ronde and some crenels. The red gate leading downtown is immediately after the tower on the right The tower on the left still shows the holes in which were set the beams supporting a floor. Their height, or lack thereof, tells that the actual ground of the inner courtyard was quite a way deeper than it is now. On the left hand-side of the same tower, the wall shows some brickwork that tells of a door, now walled-in and nearly buried.

Looking north from the panorama place of the château-haut, Anquetil tower is here on the left – the west side of the castle. These remnants of fortifications include here two towers and their curtain wall with part of the chemin de ronde and some crenels. The red gate that leads downtown is after the second round tower, and is flanked on its other side by a square tower with larger quarters than those in the round towers.
