September 2017 A must visit if you're in Mauritius is the Seven Coloured Earths. A relatively small area of sand dunes in seven distinct colours that never seem to erode even with the islands tropical storms.
Finish the day with some Rum tasting Factory tour not very good, very short and it’s around £4 entrance You do taste a lot or rum but if you want the expensive ones there is a charge for them
Terre des 7 Couleurs is located near Chamarel on the beautiful island of Mauritius. Nearby is the Chameral Waterfall in the Black River Gorges National Park. We had a wonderful lunch at the local rum distilery, La Rhumerie de Chamarel, and tasted some of their rum.
The Seven Coloured Earths are a geological formation and prominent tourist attraction found in the Chamarel plain of the Rivière Noire District in south-western Mauritius. It is a relatively small area of sand dunes comprising sand of seven distinct colours (approximately red, brown, violet, green, blue, purple and yellow). The main feature of the place is that since these differently coloured sands spontaneously settle in different layers, dunes acquire a surrealistic, striped colouring. Since the earth was first exposed, rains have carved beautiful patterns into the hillside, creating an effect of earthen meringue
