The hotel is what can be expected. It's an old creaky hotel with squeaky floors and stairs. But it is cheap, clean, convenient and comfortable enough. Has basically everything one needs including a kitchen sink. Plus a good size fridge with freezer. If you are on a budget and just need to bunk for a night, this might just do it. But it is noisy. The hotel may have history but no hospitality. The "breakfast included" is a self-serve snack bag at best.

Lots of bugs in my room when I arrived, bathroom was tiny and the floors were all uneven. Room was loud when vehicles went by due to the through wall AC unit. Bed was comfy but I’ll look for other accommodations next time I’m in town

It was a good place to stay for a night. The front office lady was very warm and helpful. The room was cute. The continental breakfast was good. Muffins, yogurt, coffee, bananas. Simply but yummy. The outside of the building and the interior is a bit rough, but the room itself was very clean.

The room was clean and comfortable. The hotel door was locked and we had to wait at least 15 for someone to show up. The wifi was horrible. If it worked only one of us could use a device at a time. Couldn’t figure out how to use the tv, instructions would be helpful. The breakfast was minimal and no filters for the coffee maker.

It must be one of the oldest buildings in the city. We stayed for a night.No elevator for the first point. You’ll hear the squeaky noise while walking upstairs. Room was very small and perfect fit for a bed. You should be careful while turning any side in the bathroom. Towels were stained, maybe cleaned I guess. While sleeping at night, we were constantly hearing thumping noise as like someone walking in the corridor. To add more the a/c unit. It was loud enough to keep you awake and switches its operating mode by its own making you awake every time it does. The location is convenient for accessing downtown and restaurants. Staff were friendly and helpful. Maybe the management should look at improving these things.

It is an older place, however it has all the amenities. The owner/host was delightful and works really hard to maintain the building, keep it clean and offer accommodations to travellers. Overall, the great customer service and wonderful people made me return. She was very accommodating - i arrived very early and she ensured I would be able to get in fast. Really lovely.

Charming little hotel in the heart of Castlegar. The owner greeted me and got me checked in. She was very nice and personable. She offered me croissants and other baked goods for breakfast. I wish I had spent more than one night.

Our stay at the Chameleon Hotel was good. We were pretty wary when we pulled up because the outside looks extremely run down, but based on other reviews we decided to give it a try. Inside was good and our room was very clean and bright with large windows. The lady at the front desk was very helpful and friendly. We partly chose this place because it included breakfast but weren't able to eat breakfast there. There was boxes of cereal, blueberry muffins, yogurt and fruit cups available in the fridge. We did have some yogurt and fruit cups which were sealed, but didn't feel comfortable eating any of the unsealed items. The breakfast room was always open even when staff wasn't there. The idea of always having everything available is very kind but since it's not monitored it would be hard to know if anything is tampered with. We felt safe staying there but I would suggest extra security on the room doors with an extra latch since there's only the one turn lock door handle. Overall we enjoyed our stay and may stay again if it's cheaper than other places as it was this time.

Nice Folks, quiet Stay but needs major Reno.

The people who worked there were lovely and helpful the the hotel needs to be updated and hopefully they will do so as they can afford to but the actual room was clean and tidy and the the mattress was comfortable. And it was $40 a night cheaper than anything else. The hotel was in the old downtown core of Castlegar and had several good restaurants and a pharmacy almost next door. Even though it was “downtown” it was really quite quiet. I would stay again.

I did not know what to expect when I booked this Hotel. But upon my arrival I felt like I had done the right thing. The check in was so perfect. I was made to feel so welcome. The room was amazing with a stunning view. I loved walking around the area trying to decide what to eat. I had only passed through Castlegar once in the past, and this was my first overnight stay, but after being there I have already started making plans for my return, and the next time I will definately be staying longer.

It was a weird experience, in general but it was very quiet and really clean is spite of the age of everything! It was pretty cool overall tho, and the staff was quite nice as well!

It’s a case of you get what you pay for. It’s an older property and definitely showing its’ age. We loved the area and the downtown is trying to make a revival. The sculpture walk was fun and the museum was great. It was relatively clean, it had working AC, the shower/water pressure was good, the bed was fine and everything worked and we had a self serve continental breakfast. The property definitely has some quirks but we liked it. It has the potential to be a wonderful rejuvenated property. I hope it can get there!

Classic, large family-owned Chamelon hotel

It is worth calling the hotel directly, this is a small town and staffing hours are very thin as hotel employees juggle other jobs. However, they are super welcoming and made our check-in incredibly smooth, even at 11pm. Continental, serve-yourself breakfast was included near the front desk, where the coffee maker is located (not in the room). Downsides were the mattress (soft, I like firm), poor sound proofing I suspect, creaky floors- the building is very old. The latter could be a plus. Very fresh smell, silky sheets, newly renovated room, mini fridge for less than $100/night. So happy I chose it. Next time I would book with the hotel directly, I think the price is the same.

Hotel common areas are very run down. The rooms are clean and tidy and much less run down than the common areas. All parking around the hotel has signs limiting to 2 hour parking from 8am-6pm, unknown if this is enforced.
