The Northgate is in an excellent location which allows you to explore Bury St. Edmonds with a short walk. The rooms and the grounds are beautiful and the syaff amazing.
We did the chefs table dinner and had auch a fantastic meal!
Would highly recommend
Not cheap but good value:You get what you pay for.
Lovely spacious room ensuite. Very clean, comfy bed.
Overlooked a main road but traffic noise not too bad. Good noise insulation from other rooms.
Great bar/ restaurant area & top service.
lovely hotel situated 5 minutes walk from the center of Bury St Edmunds.Bedroom nicely decorated and the bed very comfortable. Difficult to dry hair as no plug in the bathroom and no mirror in the bedroom!! Unfortunately we were in a front bedroom which is on the main road!! very noisy from 7.am

Easy check in, on first impression room was a good size , bed comfortable , bathroom the toilet looked like it had been broken for dome time, we did message North gate to inform them along with photos, but no response , crack in toilet seat is unhygienic !
Cobwebs in the bathroom as well
Breakfast was ok
We did inform someone about the toilet seat again when we checked out
Easy to book, check in and leave.
Lovely room. Large and tasteful. Comfy bed. All very clean.
Bathroom quirky and nice, good towels, sparking clean but one or two painted areas needing attention.
Breakfast was fine, staff member very pleasant.
Parking at the back was excellent but not well signposted.
Communal areas could do with update (hall/stairs, breakfast room). Stair carpet looked dirty which was unfortunate first impression.
TV remote not working (batteries?)
Location excellent.
Overall a very nice stay.

Listed as 5 stars but no staff there so no service. Difficult to get in. No breakfast until after I had to leave and no way to request it earlier so I didn't get any. Not as advertised. I would class this as 3 star at best. Very overpriced for what you get. Won't be staying there again.
This is a decent small hotel close to town centre with free parking.
We paid for a superior room and for the price we paid we were a little disappointed. Decor a little tired especially in the bathroom but main issue was no hot water in the evening; shower was only tepid. Also room was very cold at night even after turning radiator.
We tried to grab something to eat in the restaurant around 17:00 but were told it was fully booked even though it was empty. Suggested that we could order snacks from the bar, these were very limited, 4 options I think.
It’s a nice small hotel but if you are changing 5 star rate then you need to do better.
I did report hot water situation at check out but the young lady seemed very inexperienced and just said she would report it.
Nice area, nice site, but bed being held together by tape, for the price a night isn’t great, and unfortunately temporary traffic lights the day we stayed which meant constant noise, I am sure in a different room without the temporary traffic lights would of been a much different experience.
Enjoyable stay. Very efficient service throughout with attention to detail.

Gone very downhill
Our third stay and probably our last has really gone downhill.
We were put in a very hot room with fan that barely worked may just of been brand but terrible, street facing room so very noisy with windows open to try and sleep due to hotness of the room.
ONE coffee pod in room for coffee maker ! So not even one each!
Cleanliness was not as good as previously either, floor in bathroom did not look as if been cleaned properly as hair and dead fly in toilet.
Very disappointing.
Fantastic stay. Staff are terrific. Friendly, courteous, and very aware of client needs. Barman makes superb cocktails with a degree of theatre! Very professional. Food was superb - dinner and breakfast. Very convenient location in a very beautiful city. Highly recommended. We will be returning.
We stayed just a single night in The Northgate and overall we found it to be a great place to stay. Clean, pleasant decor, food was good and the staff were excellent.
We had dinner in the restaurant and were very impressed.
Free parking on-site was an additional sweetener and greatly appreciated.
The one single criticism that you could level at our room was the fact that it was front facing - and the traffic noise was noticeable.
Lovely hotel in a great location.Staff were friendly & professional. Breakfasts were great & we enjoyed a few drinks in the bar. Will definitely be returning 👍
The hotel is a very old building with no air conditioning. Unfortunately the room I got was facing the high street that was really noisy making it unpleasant as I had to open the windows do to the heat.
The stuff very kindly offered that I could switch rooms but the only other available one was right right above the kitchen and the kitchen fan was just as bad. Personally, not a great value for money. Looks are not everything after all.
The staff were excellent, very attentive and looked after us very well. The room was comfortable and nicely decorated.
Only downside was the stairs as we both have creaky knees. Would go back again but book a room on a lower floor.
