good hotel for a one night stop

Friendly and helpful staff. Accommodation area looking a little tired, but clean, and bar area was pleasant. Can't comment on food, as didn't dine at the hotel

Excellent stay and great food

Excellent stay at The Mill House! Very comfortable and clean. The staff are lovely - very friendly, chatty and helpful. The food is amazing - top quality and the menu has a great choice of dishes. Definitely recommend a stay here.

The food was delicious. The chef deserves much praise. However, the property appeared somewhat worn and could benefit from some care and attention in the common areas; the bar chairs look dated, and the carpets could be upgraded. The staff was wonderful.

Thank you Millhouse. You saved us!

This stay was an emergency booking due to the disaster that was the eight acres hotel in Elgin which is a dump. The wonderful folk of The Millhouse not only found us a room but bent over backwards to help us. Special mention to the wonderful Janette who was wonderful. Ask for room 2 as it has a great double jacuzzi!

I did a last minute booking, and it was a good choice. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was spacious. The bed was softer than I am used to, but I slept well. The shower took a couple of minutes to get hot, but once it did, it was nice. I had supper there, and it was very good, as was the made-to-order breakfast. There is a nice lounge area to sit and have a drink. Spey Beach was a short drive away, and was a nice “pebble” beach walk.

Room was very clean with good comfortable bed. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Only negative point was shower was very poor, however new shower head would resolve problem.

Janette was great and helpful with suggestions on things to do in the area. CJ was cute and helpful. You do have to carry bags up the stairs to your room. The food was very good and they provided breakfast.

Do not overlook this hidden gem! By chance, my fiancé, and I ended up staying at the Mill House for two nights in early May, and would definitely, without a doubt, go back for another visit! The staff were so very attentive and friendly, and the food and drinks are on par with a fine restaurant! We were actually quite sad to leave and continue on our journey, but we will always have such fond memories to look back on! Hope to see you all again soon!

Room cold even with heating on. Needs a lot of decor work done. Poor water pressure in shower. Lovely staff. Peaceful and quiet. Good value.

Likes : Good value accommodation. Good location for cycling/walking plus easy access to Buckie and Fochabers. Large free carpark, friendly staff and excellent breakfast. Ability to store e-bikes inside, safely overnight. Dislikes : Hotel needs a lot of TLC much of which is relatively minor but continues unattended to, for years - eg general room decoration, very noisy door closers (hard to close then they slam), light bulb missing in en-suite, heavily overgrown trees at rear of property that rob rooms of light plus TV that had limited reception/untidy extension cables. Would like the hotel to offer smaller evening bar meals for smaller appetites. Also, outside the control of the hotel is the excessive speed and noise of traffic on the A98. Overall, a very charming, comfortable, enjoyable and easy going place to stay that doesn't need a major refurbishment (which would inevitably mean substantial increases in prices to pay for the investment) just some basic attention to maintenance details to lift it to a better standard.

Couldn’t fault the staff, and the food was amazing, but the property definitely needs some money spent on it. Stained carpets, damaged wall coverings, ancient decor in the bathroom, missing shelves, damp on ceilings, etc. The other thing I need to mention is that the rooms are up 3 flights of stairs, the restaurant is upstairs too, and there is no lift. It’s a lovely old mill building but needs some care and attention.
