The location and cleanliness

The Marina Inn at Grande Dunes is beautiful from the outside and the property itself has a lot of potential, but unfortunately the inside was a major disappointment. The rooms and common areas feel very dated, with old furniture and décor that really need to be updated. For the price and the reputation of the property, we expected the inside to be much nicer. Our check-in experience was especially concerning. We were given a room that already had someone staying in it. We opened the door and discovered the guest was actually in the shower. Thankfully, the staff was very nice and handled the situation professionally, but it was definitely an uncomfortable and unsettling experience. We also ordered food at the pool and waited about an hour for it to be served. That was frustrating, especially while trying to enjoy the pool. To their credit, the staff did take the charge off our bill, and we appreciated them making that gesture. Another disappointment was that our room had no refrigerator at all, which seems like a pretty basic amenity for a hotel of this caliber. The staff was friendly and courteous, and we appreciated how they handled the problems we encountered. However, the outdated interior, room mix-up, long wait for food at the pool, and lack of a refrigerator made the stay fall well short of what we expected from the Marina Inn at Grande Dunes. The exterior and grounds are beautiful, but unfortunately, the inside needs a significant update.

The pools were good. The beach area was good. All areas were tired looking. The 1st 2 bedroom sweet they tried to put us in was sub par with a huge puddle in the 2nd bathroom coming from the AC unit in the ceiling. The desk clerk said , oh I’ve heard that before. The unit smelled like an old basement. It was on the 1st floor. The furniture was old, stained and dirty. We asked for another unit to look at and the switched us to another unit up high. It smelled just fine and no leaks. Some of the furniture was tired as well. We stayed at the Marina Inn twice before 10 years ago and it was nice. After that amount of time there is great need for touch- up and updating. I was also charged to my room for a drink at the pool. We never had drinks anywhere on the property. I have to call back again to speak to the front desk manager, Chris, to get the charge removed. He was not available. The stay was ok but, we will stay somewhere else next time for the price we paid.

I can’t think of anything bad to say about this place. The staff were all friendly and welcoming, the location is great, room was clean as well as a soft comfy bed. Shower pressure was great (which is always a plus). Pool area clean. Special shoutout to Carolyn at the front desk, and Carolyn in housekeeping. They are both awesome!! This was my first time staying here and I will definitely be back again next time I plan another beach trip!
