Bugs in the room

I visit Birmingham quite often. First time staying at Residence Inn downtown. Unfortunately I will not be staying there in the future. The entire facility is showing its age. Doors to the rooms are out of alignment. A constant noise of guests forcing (slamming) doors to close. We had to put our shoulder and push to get the door to open and close. Toliet leaked water constantly on bathroom floor. Asked maintenance to do a repair but was given a number of excuses. We were there five days and four nights, it was never fixed. Carpet was the filthest I've encountered in a hotel. Carpet was severely stained. Breakfast area is very small for such a large hotel. With alot of guests at one time it's impossible to maneuver to get food. We were supposed to have our room refreshed every third day, it never happened. Had to empty our trash cans our self and put it in the hallway. When they held charges on our credit card they ran double charges. They held $1600.00 dollars for a $750.00 dollar bill. This hotel has to many inconsistencies.

Nice place great room great food nearby

The location of the property was great. Place was clean and the pool was nice. However, the quality of the place felt cheaply made. The most annoying thing was the hot water issue. We had to run the hot water for 15 min to even get it warm and then it went tepid after only a few minutes. They mentioned it being a possible issue during peak hours, but there’s no reason this should occur at 4:30 in the morning. Unless you like cold showers, I would not recommend staying here.

Excellent place to stay with well appointed kitchen and comfortable bed. The swimming pool was the perfect place to cool off on a hot day along with its shaded cabana area. The location is very convenient for visiting Mountain Brook, Crestline Village and shopping.

The hotel was under renovation with no notice prior to arrival. Did not see any repairs just...mess. There were roaches in our room. No room service. Water damage to ceiling in bathroom that had been sloppily cut out and patched. AC smelled musty. Desk staff were friendly and helpful and frustrated with the situation.
