Good for one night
A good value for money, no-frills stay. The whole B and B needs some TLC, but Helen is a lovely host, and for a one-night stop over, which was our stay, it was good.
The whole house was filthy, cluttered and run down.
The rooms had no locks on the doors and my husband had to help the host install one. The bathroom was filthy, with plain evidence of the previous peoples use(to put it politely). The cold tap on the basin did not work and the shower had thick black mould round it.
The breakfast room was quite clearly used as the living room of the owners and was full of clutter and laundry, with just a space cleared for us to eat. No choice given at breakfast, we had what the host decided on. Lucky we were happy with fried egg and bacon.
This is rather a difficult review to write. There are many positives about the property so I'll list those first:
The location is fabulous. There is parking outside the front door, the town walls are about a minutes walk and the town hall and high street maybe two minutes.
Helen is a wonderful host, chatty and knowledgeable.
The other side of the coin is that the property is run down, untidy and in severe need of maintenance and updating.
I can imagine it is a struggle running a property such as this but if you are going to advertise it as a guesthouse then that's what it needs to be, not a dosshouse. There are other people staying there, and I can imagine the income is a life saver, but they really had no idea how to interact with paying customers. One of them was washing in the sink when we came downstairs and then walk to his room just in his boxers. Not a big issue but again it comes down to which income stream is more important. The house has the potential to be a fabulous boutique B&B but to do so would need a lot of investment. It's not there at the moment.

Location ideal for exploring the town. It was great for a one night stay. Pretty basic facilities, but bed was comfy and bath hot (no shower)
The cost was the first thing that attracted me, in addition to the property being slap bang in the middle of Berwick. It is a lovely old terrace house which retains its original features and is extremely quirky. The owner was very helpful and text me with regard to arrival and breakfast. The only downside was the weather was frightful when I arrived and I struggled to find the entrance.

Has character
Very characterfull property and freindly helpfull host. Could do with some updating of the decorating.
We were there for 3 days. The lady greeted us and received us with great hospitality. Definitely recommend this guest house to a holiday in Berwick. The room was clean and the lady was helpful with everything that we needed.
Orkney Guest House was perfect and offered everything I needed. My host was friendly and helpful. It was a very pleasant stay.

We had a good overnight stay. The room is large and the bed was comfortable. There is a reasonable pressure electric shower. The decor is rather tired but generally clean.
The landlady was very kind and helpful.

Confusing but friendly
Check in was a little confusing, as it transpired the manager had texted me (but it wasn’t obviously from her ) and there was no one there nor was it even obvious which door it was. In the end we called her and she had left the side door open for us so we let ourselves in. The place itself seems a little tired, and a little haphazard but the manager was friendly and even offered to make me honey and lemon tea when we were leaving, as I felt unwell, which was very kind of her. We had a continental breakfast with great marmalade.
Helen the landlady is worth the visit. She is a whirlwind of activity. She was working as a volunteer for the local church helping to plaster and paint. She takes great care of her guests. I had twisted my ankle and couldn't make the walk to the train station and wanted to call for a taxi. She wouldn't hear of it and insisted on driving me herself.

Good budget option
Stayed overnight in Berwick upon Tweed as part of a cycling trip from Newcastle to Edinburgh. The BNB owner was very accomodating and made provision for our bikes to be stored safely. The BnB is situated in an old property with period decor. Breakfast was included and vegetarian options were available, but quantities were limited especially for hungry cyclists!

Helen was very helpful and obliging. Good location.
Owner left key for us . Didn't see till next morning as we left. Foul smell from eating area through whole house.Stayed as we needed somewhere for one night and had paid in advance. Got partial refund from Expedia as so bad.
Don't think it's on web site now .If it is stay away.!
