Large & friendly old inn, Barnard Castle outskirts
Large & friendly old inn about 15 mins walk from centre of Barnard Castle. Pub serves food and has letting rooms plus adjoining caravan/campervan site. Some might find the rooms a little basic but my room was clean, light and airy, the bed comfortable. I had a small dressing room/study area between bedroom and bathroom which would have been great for catching up on work or writing memoirs/novel etc! I enjoyed my stay, slept well and deeply, and they did me a fantastic gluten free full English breakfast the next morning.
Staff, food and room were great. Friendly place, enjoyable stay.

We enjoyed our stay and the hotel was well placed for our short 2 night visit to Barnard Castle.. The staff were helpful and friendly and the bed was comfortable.
Greeted with a warm and kind welcome.
Very easy to find and plenty of parking on site.
It was a perfect choice for the 1 night stay we had in breaking a long drive from the north of Scotland to south yorkshire.
Food and drink in the inn was very nice and the service by the staff likewise.
Breakfast was included in the cost of the stay and we knew it was going to be as good as its past reviews. All in all a great stay.
Nice place with very friendly staff. Only stayed the one night as a stopover. Room was comfortable and clean, maybe could do with a refresh but totally fine for a short stay. A little outside Barnard centre, about 20 minute easy walk Had an evening meal in the bar which was really nice and great value for money. The bar area itself was very nice with a relaxed atmosphere, great to unwind. The included breakfast was very good with a variety of choice. If yiur looking for a stopover with breakfast in a quiet area close to Barnard then you wont go wrong here.
A one night stop over, small room which we knew we had booked. A bit of a problem with the T V which was sorted, using the i Player. Couldn't fault the staff, a very pleasant stay and we would go back there again.
The staff were very attentive and had a great sense of humour. Evening meal exceeded expectations and breakfast was hot tasty and locally sourced. Will definitely be revisiting.
Old established pub on the outskirts of Barnard Castle, within a 15 min walk of it's shopping area. Decorated to a good standard, room was bigger than average, with all the usual facilities in working order. However the bed was very soft & its mattress in need of replacement. Food the usual pub menu & of a reasonable standard. A good cooked breakfast was within the room tariff, making it a good value stay.
Booked for a cheaper option when attending a wedding at Runa Farm. They quickly turned our room around so we could check in early and get ready. Staff were incredibly polite and friendly. Breakfast was included with our booking which was great with wonderful service! Room had tea/coffee and a much needed fan.
The pleasant, friendly staff were particularly memorable for their friendly, helpful 'can do' attitude. The room(s) we were given were more than adequate for our needs and included a bedroom and a sitting room together with two TV's and the usual shower room. It was quirky, old and perhaps in need of a little TLC, but laid back and lovely
Staff were lovely and breakfast very good.
The hotel needs a deep clean specially the carpets.
Requires a paint job.
The bed wasn't comfortable for me.
Bathroom needs a makeover.
Stopped here for an overnight stay on route back from Scotland. Amazing helpful and friendly staff. Lucy and Matthew very efficient.
Chef catered for my wife's allergies and used her own lactose free cheese in the evening meal.
Evening meal was very good as was breakfast.
15 min walk into town where we found the chocolate fayre shop, which also did allergy optons.
Our bed was a bit soft for us, but we slept well.
