Ardstinchar Bridge across the River Stinchar in Ballantrae. This old bridge was built in 1770 from the stones of the ruined Ardstinchar Castle, which is just above the bridge on the hillside. It was abandoned in 1964. #InStone #River

In the background is the only remnants of the Ardstinchair Castle remaining to this day. Ardstinchar Castle is a late medieval castle in the west coast of Ayrshire at the mouth of the River Stinchar. It was built by Hugh Kennedy of Ardstinchar in the mid-15th century. In the 1770s, the castle was demolished and the stone was used to build a bridge. In the middle is a war memorial.

Ballantrae Parish Churchyard This is an old area of the churchyard with the Kennedy Mausoleum a prominent feature. The mausoleum was formerly an aisle built against the south wall of an earlier church on this site. The present parish church with clock tower is in the background.
