We stayed here on a long weekend with the family and dogs - everything we could have asked for - good location with the Langdales just up the road (easy parking, pay and display), does packed lunches which were superb, very good evening food, good bar and lovely staff who were attentive, very friendly and helpful.
Bus stop opposite to Ambleside and also up to the Langadales for those with no car

A beautiful country inn located at the heart of the South lakes. The rooms are compact but well appointed and comfortable. The food (especially the breakfast) ‘hits the spot’ and the staff are brilliant. The spectacular Langdales are all around with no need to use the car - so just park up and enjoy.

Two night stay with my daughter. Beautiful property and excellent food. In stunning surroundings. Loved the hotel. The only thing I would mention is because I booked through hotels .com and not the Inn I wasn’t aware that you have full use of the spa facilities at the Langdale. Had I booked directly with the Inn I would have known. Fortunately though my daughter has a swim suit with her even if I didn’t

Nice inn. Old school. Great view, quiet. But way too expensive. £170 per night is just a rip off.

Beautiful area with shorter low level walks around Elterwater as well as longer and higher walks. Loughrigg Tarn is stunning. Ambleside is just 4 miles away but it feels like a world away. Langdale has amazing views from the bottom at Blea Tarn and from the top. The Britannia Inn offers rooms with lots of character and excellent food, usually eaten outside with a view depending on the weather. The staff are helpful, friendly and relaxed. We had a wonderful 3 night escape here. Thoroughly recommended.

The Britannia is an old Lakeland inn, so you can’t expect all the amenities of a modern hotel. However, I would forego a lift (elevator) in favour of such a lovely and evocative place. The hotel is really well run, with excellent staff. The bedrooms have been refurbished with modern en suite bathrooms, Wi-Fi, smart TV etc. We ate in the hotel on both nights of our stay and found the food very good. The breakfasts were exceptional, comprising all locally sourced produce. There is a first class selection of local cask beers and a lovely outdoor seating area and garden. The atmosphere is very relaxed, which makes for a fantastic, restful stay. A brilliant few days in Elterwater. Thank you Britannia.

My two walking chums and I each with our own room, couldn’t praise this more highly. Everyone of the staff were friendly and helpful. The beer was great, the food too, and I got more than I bargained for when I asked for the full monty breakfast which as well as black pudding included haggis! Delicious!
This set is up nicely for our 7 hour climb.
Also whoever does the gardening is a genius. Beautiful flowers, vegetation and hanging baskets.
Good value for money too.
A massive thank you for a thoroughly enjoyable stay. We left as friends after our 2 day stay. Thank you all at the Britannia.
Jeremy, Chris and our American chum, Tony. The Lakes was on his bucket list, now superbly fulfilled.

Our room, 4, was directly above the bar and an awful din came up through the floor. It was very noisy and kept us awake when we went to bed before the bar closed. Then well after 11pm there was a series loud bangs as doors were slammed downstairs below us - made our room rattle and shake. Not pleasant.
