3 nights in late July. Hotel is a great place to stay to experience the Lake District, not far from Ambleside but remote enough to feel like you are really in nature. Staff and breakfast were excellent. Walk up to Stickle Tarn was a good test with a couple of scrambly bits but well worth it once you got there.

Amazing views and walks around the hotel. Basic room in need of modernisation. Beds were very comfortable. No curtains or blinds on the window! Toilet was broken on arrival but was fixed within the hour and offered a drink on the house which is nice. Staff very helpful and friendly. You can see the property is undergoing some work so understandable.

Lovely staff, beautiful surroundies good place to access hikes or lovly small towns. Roads are narrow getting there but it is a gorgeous location. Excellent breakfast and pub food. We really enjoyed our stay.

Our room was excellent very quiet with lovely comfortable bed, nice bed linen, towels and plenty of tea&coffee etc. Breakfast was delicious. We ate evening meals at the hotel which were homemade and great quality and reasonable price. New owners have taken over hotel just over 2 mths ago and we found them to be very friendly, welcoming and hard working. They're improving the hotel with new decor and have great attention to detail so I'm sure once finished it will be amazing. It's location is great with some fantastic walks and bus on your doorstep. We hope to return next time we are in the Lakes and wouldn't hesitate to recommend the hotel.

Staff were great. The valley had no water due to the drought. The staff took it in their stride. They were honest about the situation, provided bottled water and kept guests up to date with the situation which was resolved by the next morning. The room was clean, however the paintwork could do with being refreshed. Tea / coffee stains on the wall by the kettle. The bathroom taps were loose (we tightened them) and the toilet bowl could've used a good scrub below the waterline. However, the shower was big with room to move and there was plenty of hot water once the water issue had been resolved. The lunch / evening menu is very limited. Breakfast was included and very good, there were more options on this menu than the other! We did however, enjoy our stay and will stay here again when we next go to the lakes.

Staff were excellent, very friendly and helpful. Comfortable rooms with great breakfasts. We were lucky with the weather so were able to appreciate the well maintained gardens.

Easily my favourite place to stay in the Lakes!

Brilliant, cosy inn with restaurant, and great rooms and Teapigs in the rooms… beats a cheap coffee sachet. The staff were really friendly, and my daughter and I loved our stay for two days climbing in the Lakes. The breakfasts are superb too.
