This is a very old, historical hotel so don't expect fancy amenities. However, it is very well kept up and comfortable. The staff are all very sweet and the room includes delicious pastries and coffee each morning down in their hotel lobby. The saloon has great food at night plus there's a great hamburger place or Thai restaurant just down the street. It IS haunted so have fun reading up on all of that history!!

This is a historic hotel so creaky floors and noise travels well but it was charming, comfortable, and a good experience with the historical experience in mind. A very fun stay and experience!

Great updating of an older building.

Staff was wonderful. Room and bathroom clean. In the center of town. Breakfast coffee and pastry fabulous!!! Highly recommend.

Hotel Niles is a step back in history! The historic building has been preserved well and the antiques and decorations are original or brought in to match the period. WiFi is available, but no TV's which is just how I like it. Alturas is a beautiful landscape and the town is wonderful. The staff of the Niles is top notch, the food downstairs was fabulous and I can't wait to be back in Alturas for another stay at the Hotel Niles!

This hotel is a miracle, I love the fact that it exists! I can forgive most of the problems I had since I am not sure how it has survived, I am just glad it did. We had the fishing suite which was charming. Lucky we get up early, so the sound of the radio from the coffee shop below wasn’t a problem.

Can’t recommend

Seemed to be a lack of employees to effectively run the hotel. Just a shabby, dirty hotel that had no elevator. No clear entry door. Inconvenient parking. Needs some cleaning, repairs and updating.

Quiet, very different hotel w/ history

I really love it. Be aware that there are no tvs, elevators, refrigerator or microwaves. I enjoyed it but was frustrated when I used the internet as it kept rebooting all the time. Each room has a different theme, but this time, I learned that not all the rooms are as big as the one I previously stayed in. I was a little disappointed by that.

Room was very nice but the shower dripped loudly. We reported it immediately but was not fixed within the 2 days we were there. Second floor rooms are directly above the saloon causing us to endure loud music until nearly 11pm both nights. There was no ice in the large ice container on 2nd floor causing us to go to the bakery downstairs to get some.

Charming, unique. Yes it’s old and could use some maintenance. However I really enjoyed this hotel. The staff were friendly and caring. I was disappointed the dining area was closed in the morning and all they had was tea and coffee with a muffin. Which was delicious by the way. Also I left really early but couldn’t find anywhere to drop my key off as all the doors were locked. So if you leave before 7:00 am it’s a problem. The keys are not cards. Don’t expect any refrigeration or microwave in the room. There was shampoo, conditioner, soap , hairdryer though. There was a fan in the room and books. I hope to come back

This is not a modern hotel, so if you're looking for that, this ain't it. That said, I had a wonderful time. It's like staying at a museum. It's clean, and the bathrooms work perfectly well, but it is an old structure with its quirks. It's like cilantro: you're either gonna love it or hate it. I loved it. Everyone on staff was super friendly and helpful. If I ever end up in that neck of the woods, I'm staying there again. Staying at Motel 6 or Super 8 is usually not memorable, and if it is, it's probably for a wrong reason...

Very nice historic property

We loved staying at this historic hotel, but a couple suggestions… additional Electric outlets would be nice especially in the restroom, had to curl hair and the only ones found were under or behind furniture and hard to get to. Also a TV would be nice!
