The staff is very friendly but you realize that this place is not run like a professional hotel. The service seems to depend on who is currently available. I would not call the place a Spa resort, it is rather a middle class B&B and the photos on the website and at Hotel.com are not accurate. The terrace is nice but the lounge furniture seen on the photos are not available, instead they were replaced with simple and outdated ones. Our room 601 did not have a lock, not even a real door. Instead it was a terrace door that could not be locked at all. Not sure everyone would like to sleep or be away with a room unlocked. The shower and WC are simple but okay, cleanliness is good. The premium bedding advertised on the website is not available, the beds are simple ones with pretty worn out beddings. The view from the terrace is exceptional but there is no way to enjoy the sea.you need to travel to Pie de la Cuesta or downtown. All in all you get what you pay for, the food and drinks served are rather on the expensive side, the same is valid for the parking (95 pesos a day).

Fabulous Resort, but One Negative...
My boyfriend & I went to Donde Mira El Sol for a quick weekend getaway from Mexico City. OVERALL: We LOVED this hotel, we definitely will return, & would highly recommend it. PROS: STUNNING! The hotel is gorgeous, incredibly well maintained, & the views are breathtaking. They renovated 1 year ago so everything is fresh & new. Beautiful room with a/c, fan & ocean view. The owners are incredibly gracious & charming. They make you feel right at home. 4 pools to choose from! Each has a unique view of the ocean. Seclusion. No other hotels or resorts nearby, so you completely escape the tourist madness. ONE CON: Our dining experience is the reason for 4 stars instead of 5. The restaurant was open from 9am - 9pm. We arrived for dinner at 7:20 & were the ONLY guests in the dining area. We waited 25 minutes just for menus, the waiter finally took our order at 8pm. He then instructed us to only order from the "light snack" menu. Frustrated, I asked why, and he said it was because it would take 40 minutes to cook a full dinner. We ordered from the full dinner menu regardless, because this was very unfair to us. The next morning the owner let us pick two fresh caught fish that we would have for lunch (so nice!). When we arrived for lunch at 2:10 we waited and waited, but nobody came to take our order. Since we had a 5-hr drive ahead of us, we couldn't wait any longer. We were very disappointed that we had to check out without eating anything, let alone our specially selected fish.

Seven Days in Paradise
We found everything from the Donde Mira El Sol web site to be factual and true. We arrived late in the evening, well after dark, to find a four course meal with several of the residents and owner waiting for us. You could hear the ocean waves breaking and smell the sea breeze on the terrace where we dinned. The next morning we looked out the window and there it was, the beautiful Pacific Ocean, a view that can be seen from everywhere on the property. Even with the beautiful swimming pools, we took the steps down to the ocean for our first swim. We ate all our meals at Donde Mira El Sol and enjoyed everyone of them trying several new dishes with wonderfully fresh ingredients, no processed foods here! Meals are served mainly at 10:00 am, 4:00 pm and 8:30 pm, somehow this immediately seemed entirely normal, however you may order meals any time between 9:00 am and 9:00 pm. The owners, who live on site, and the staff are totally dedicated to making your stay nothing but relaxing and enjoyable. If you are looking for a place to live, or just visit, you will not find a better Senior Living Home. You may find some places equally wonderful, but the financial cost will be much greater. As a vacation spot, Donde Mira is also a wonderful hotel. We are already planning to winter at Donde Mira El Sol next year or perhaps become permanent residents. In one week we made life long friends!
