Room was spacious and well planned. Bed very comfortable. Bathroom very spacious, would have preferred separate shower rather than over bath, but this was a minor issue. Staff very friendly and helpful. Enjoyed our two nights stay.

Beautiful, classic room with poster bed in an ancient but well-maintained building, giving a full Scottish feel. The hotel is close to Loch Kinord natural reserve, which provides picturesque and serene walks.

The lodge was very spacious, the rooms were clean, had everything you needed including a cooker, microwave, dishwasher and fridge. All you need for a home away from home. Next time we will probably bring our own food stay a little longer and have a good look around the area.

The room was spacious and excellently decorated with a lovely 4 poster bed. How romantic! The bathroom was large and we unexpectedly even had a sauna room as well. What a surprise! The tub was enormous but the shower stall was a bit on the small side. Very clean. The bed was comfortable and the pillows were soft. It takes getting used to drying one’s hair outside of the bathroom but they conveniently gave us a portable 5x mirror which we placed on top of the heater and just sat on the bed to dry our hair. Best night sleep away from home in a while. We had breakfast onsite and it was fabulous… a delicious wee breakfast with one egg, black pudding, tomato, mushrooms, sausage and bacon. Yum!

Sehr sauberes und großzügiges Zimmer. Wir sind mit Hund verreist, ist garkein Problem gewesen. Sehr freundliches und Hilfbereites Personal. Frühstück hatten wir erst nicht geplant, allerdings bot man uns mit Hund an einen separaten Tisch in der Lounge frühstücken konnten. Das war echt super, es waren auch andere Hundbesitzee da, alles sehr gut gewesen. Daher haben wir dann auch das Feühstück zusätzlich an beiden Tagen genutzt. Das gleiche halt auch abends mit dem Hund zu essen. Das englische Frühstück und Abendessen, war sehr lecker und ich würde das Hotel jedem empfehlen, vor allem auch das Essen.

Miserable! Arrived to this dog friendly hotel and were greeted by a friendly manager who showed us to our room. When we walked into the room the curtains were closed but it was made up nicely enough with a balcony. Unfortunately, the room was tiny - definitely not big enough for two adults and a big dog. Having said that, apart from the peeling wallpaper and orange gunk around the taps it was adequate. There were tea and coffee facilities in the wardrobe, I’m not sure where we would have plugged the kettle in if we had wanted to as there was no surface space - perhaps the floor? My husband was advised on popping downstairs that the only time available for us to eat was at 6.30pm as they were fully booked. Later, when I took the dog out for a wee walk I asked a bit more about this as I had presumed we’d be factored in for dinner at time of booking as with most country hotels with nowhere else to eat in a 5 mile Radius. I was advised that we had been and that 6.30 was a reasonable time to eat dinner. I entirely disagree when we had not long arrived - check in is at 4pm and after a long day walking we needed showers and some chill time. The bar area was quiet to say the least. No music and no other people. I asked about popping the rugby on at a low volume and was told this wasn’t possible. We decided that given the time of dinner, lack of atmosphere and general feeling of the hotel, we would go into town. A £20 taxi there and we found ourselves in the balmoral bar which

Enjoyable stay

We booked a room on the spur of the moment as it was too late in the day to travel south. Craig, The Manager, made us very welcome and was extremely helpful, professional and efficient, he is a great asset for the business. We would definitely stay here again.

The hotel is a great base for walking in the northern Cairngorms. Its also only a few miles to either Aboyne or Ballater which has bars, restaurants, supermarkets etc etc
