“3 nights in late July. Hotel is a great place to stay to experience the Lake District, not far from Ambleside but remote enough to feel like you are really in nature. Staff and breakfast were excellent. Walk up to Stickle Tarn was a good test with a couple of scrambly bits but well worth it once you got there.”

“We booked one of the nicer rooms. It seemed like a renovation project had been started but not finished. Half the wooden floor had been sanded and in places patched, the rest was stained. Shower was a clunky 70’s spa tub which ran hot and cold without any changes to the lever. Cupboard with glass doors was missing glass in one of them. Exterior of the hotel looked run down. “Breakfast lounge was sparse, no plates so had to use a lid from something else to butter and eat toast. Parking was easy and useful in The Lakes. Room was nice and bed was large and comfy, downside was the heat from the large floor to ceiling windows in the sitting lounge at the front with no way to cool it down. Be better if we weren’t having a heatwave! Overall it was a nice enough place, well positioned for Ambleside and Waterhead and parking was a plus.”

“The room was clean and basic. It was a bit noisy as the plumbing (I assume) sometimes banged loudly in our room. This didn’t go too late into the night and we slept well. The kitchen facilities were good and the large dining/lounge area was a great space. The whole place could do with a lick of paint and a good wipe over. The games and books were tatty with pieces missing (no table tennis with only one bat and no ball!). It was good to have a bar which was reasonably well resourced. When we...
